About UPDU

Urban Planning & Development Unit (UPDU) was founded in 2016 as an expert’s team, part of the Sustainable Development & Environment Research Area at Frederick University, Cyprus. It provides a variety of research and consulting services in the fields of Built Environment, Planning and Urban Design.  UPDU is affiliated to the Department of Architecture and supported by Sustainable Energy Research Group (SERG), Nature Conservation Unit and Social Welfare Research Team.

Research

UPDU is coordinating or actively involved in a number of european or locally funded research projects on sustainable city planning, design concepts and urban development, energy systems and the built environment, ageining and place inclussiveness, sustainable urban mobility and transport, governance and management of coastal and protected areas.

Consulancy Services 

UPDU is also providing short research reports or consultancy services for private or public bodies, with the support of other Frederick University units, as regards: planning and development appraisals, development strategy  and briefs based on alternative designs, masterplanning, private architectural competitions, retail impact studies, traffic impact studies and environmental impact assessments.
