Dr. Anna Merry has been a member of the Arts and Communication Department of Frederick University since 2009. She currently teaches courses related to Interior Design, Lighting Design and Research Methodology while coordinating the PhD program in Art and Design Practices. Anna has guided her students through various competitions and collaborations within the design industry. Furthermore, Anna received her BA in Interior Design from Frederick University and later completed her MA in Design Innovation at De Montfort University Leicester. In 2018 Anna attained her postgraduate academic degree (PhD) from De Montfort University Leicester entitled: “An Investigation into Playful Interactive Experiences within Public Space”. Her continuing research interests surround Interior Design, Design Innovation, Urban Studies and User Experience where she actively incorporates her research within her teaching methodology. During her time at Frederick University Anna has published her research within international design journals as well as participating in several international design conferences. Additionally, Anna has collaborated in design workshops and scientific research within the framework of the Green Urban Lab project which was made possible through funding from the EEA Grants/Norway Grants. Anna is a continued external collaborator of Urban Gorillas NGO, who are based in Nicosia, Cyprus. Acting as a technical advisor on playful design, Anna has a continuing design and research relationship with the group across various urban design projects. In 2023 Anna completed an internally funded research project entitled ‘Re-mapping Public Space: Investigating Social and Spatial Interactions in Cyprus Post Covid-19.’ Anna is currently the coordinator the EU funded program: ‘Exploring Green Futures: Integrating the New European Bauhaus into Art and Design Education’ (Futures Designed), whilst additional acting as a senior researcher and Case study lead in the EU Horizon and UKRI funded program, ‘GREAT: Games Realising Effective & Affective Transformation’.
