Sophia Giazitzidou is a Post-doctoral researcher at the University of Crete. She holds PhD in Educational Psychology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2021). Her research interests focus on reading of students with and without reading difficulties. In her PhD research she examined the underlying cognitive and linguistic skills of oral and silent reading fluency of students with and without dyslexia. Sophia has gained three scholarships for her PhD research. Furthermore, she has worked on eye-tracking experiments, conducting studies on reading fluency and reading comprehension with Portuguese undergraduate students. Sophia has published articles in international journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters and she has participated as a trainer in numerous seminars for undergraduate and graduate teachers, psychologists and speech therapists. She has also published 10 specially designed small books for reading fluency instruction of students with reading difficulties, which are approved by the Ministry of Education of Cyprus. Sophia has taught Learning Disabilities in the Master Program in Special Education of the University of Crete as Contract Lecturer and in the Center of Training and Lifelong Learning of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki as Collaborating Academic Staff. Sophia currently works at the Department of Education at Frederick University as Collaborative Academic Staff.
