Ο Δημήτριος Δημητρίου αποφοίτησε από την Παιδαγωγική Ακαδημία Κύπρου το 1975 Το 1993 απέκτησε από το Παιδαγωγικό Ινστιτούτο Δίπλωμα στα πλαίσια Προγράμματος αναβάθμισης των Εκπαιδευτικών της Δημοτικής Εκπαίδευσης. Το 1998 πήρε πτυχίο στα Παιδαγωγικά από το Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών Έκανε μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στο University of Bath όπου απέκτησε τον τίτλο M.A in Educational Management. Θέμα της διατριβής του για το Μ.Α. ήταν: «Ο ρόλος του διευθυντή στην επιμόρφωση των δασκάλων στο κυπριακό εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα» Διδάσκει το μάθημα της Σχολικής Εμπειρίας σε προπτυχιακά προγράμματα στη Σχολή Επιστημών της Αγωγής και ειδικότερα στο Τμήμα Δασκάλων. Εργάστηκε ως δάσκαλος, βοηθός διευθυντής, διευθυντής και Επιθεωρητής Γενικών Μαθημάτων στη Δημοτική εκπαίδευση. Υπήρξε πρόεδρος της Ενδοτμηματικής Επιτροπής Επιστήμης και Σχεδιασμού και Τεχνολογίας και μέλος της ενδοτμηματικής επιτροπής Μαθηματικών Είχε τη γενική εποπτεία στη συγγραφή των βιβλίων Επιστήμης σύμφωνα με τα νέα Αναλυτικά Προγράμματα Κατά τη διάρκεια της υπηρεσίας του έλαβε μέρος σε πολλά εκπαιδευτικά συνέδρια τόσο στην Κύπρο όσο και στο εξωτερικό.

Demetrios Demetriou graduated from the Pedagogical Academy of Cyprus in 1975. In 1993 he received a Diploma from the Pedagogical Institute through the Elementary Education Teachers' Upgrading Program. In 1998 he received a Bachelor's Degree in Pedagogy from the University of Athens. He performed his postgraduate studies at the University of Bath where he received an M.A in Educational Management. Τhe subject of his dissertation for the M.A. was: ‘The Headteacher’s Role in Promoting Staff Development in Cypriot Primary Schools’. He teaches the course of ‘School Experience’ in undergraduate programs at the School of Education and more specifically at the Department of Teachers He has worked as a teacher, assistant headteacher, headteacher (6 years) and School Inspector (5 years) in the Primary Education system in Cyprus. He was chairman of the Interdepartmental Committee on Science and Design and Technology and a member of the Interdepartmental Committee on Mathematics. He was the project leader for the writing of science books for Primary Education related to the new National Curriculum. During his service he organised and participated in many educational conferences both in Cyprus and abroad.
