Prof. Sotiris Omirou is a Professor at the department of Mechanical Engineering of Frederick University. He joined the Faculty of Engineering in 2004. He received his MSc. diploma (5 years program) in Mechanical engineering from the University of Gheorghe Asachi Polytechnic Institute of Iasi in Romania (1984) and his PhD degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Patras in Greece (1991). Prior to this appointment he served as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Patras Greece (since 1991) and Research Associate and Teaching Assistant (1985-1991) at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Patras. He currently teaches in undergraduates and postgraduates programs in the School of Engineering of Frederick University and specifically in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. His research interests are focused on CAD/CAM and CNC manufacturing methods. Specific topics include development of new interpolation algorithms for complex curves, motion generation, new CNC canned cycles, CNC programming of complex geometries. He is the author of two technical books, and he has published a significant number of scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals. He is involved in various funded research projects. He also acts as an invited reviewer for the Computer Aided Design Journal, the International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology and the journal of Robotics and Computer Integrated Manufacturing.
