Dr Milton Demosthenous is a Professor of Structural, Experimental and Earthquake Engineering, at Frederick University, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Department of Civil Engineering and the Dept. of Architecture. He is Director of the Laboratory of Mechanics of FredU and co-coordinator of the postgraduate Msc program for the Conservation and Rehabilitation of Monuments and Historical Structures. He completed his Ph.D. at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), in the field of Earthquake Engineering. Since 1995 he worked as researcher in various positions at the Institute of Engineering Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (ITSAK) at Thessaloniki and the period 2007 – 2010 was Director of ITSAK. He participated in more than 10 scientific committees for the assessment of damages after Earthquakes in Greece and Cyprus and the last thirty years was involved in more than 30 research programs, as coordinator or scientific responsible. He was also visiting researcher and foreign member of the International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering of Japan (IISEE) and visiting researcher at the Department of Geological Survey of Cyprus (GSD) where he worked for the development of the accelerograph network of Cyprus and the completion of the Microzonation Studies in various cities of Cyprus. He published more than 150 scientific papers in international journals and proceedings of national and international conferences. His research interest is focused on the Experimental and Numerical investigation of the dynamic and earthquake response of structures, engineering seismology, assessment of damages after earthquakes and rehabilitation of monuments and existing structures.
