Dr Electra Lipsou received a PhD in Curriculum & Instruction and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Saint Louis University, in the USA. She also received a Bachelor Degree in Modern Greek Literature with a specialization on Medieval and Modern Literature from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). She started her career as a Modern Greek teacher, teaching Modern Greek Literature, composition writing and Greek as a foreign language. She has teaching experience in all teaching levels and extensive experience with the Pancyprian Examinations. Her research interest lies principally in the variables that may affect students’ writing performance and emotions toward composition writing. She is highly interested in the usage of methods to improve students’ writing skills and on the use of strategies to assist students to overcome their ‘uneasy’ feelings toward composition writing and familiarizing themselves with the process of writing. Generally, the emotional aspect in learning is an area of high interest for Dr Lipsou. Another area of interest is the domain of Greek language acquisition as a foreign/second language and the usage of appropriate techniques to improve language skills in the second language classroom. Current research interests lie mainly in the field of educational evaluation and assessment, school management, school transformation programs and strategic development as well as teachers’ professional development, effectiveness and assessment. Dr Lipsou is a member of the Collaborating Academic Staff at Frederick University in Cyprus, where she teaches Human Resources Management in Education in the Distance Learning Programme of Educational Leadership & Administration.
