Ο Νεκτάριος Νικολάου απασχολείται στον τομέα των Κλινικών Βιοεπιστημών για περισσότερο από δεκαπέντε χρόνια. Ξεκίνησε τις σπουδές στο Intercollege Λευκωσίας καθώς και στο University of Indianapolis στις ΗΠΑ λαμβάνοντας το δίπλωμα Προ-Ιατρικής. Στη συνέχεια, φοίτησε στο Kingston University στο Λονδίνο, απ’ όπου απέκτησε το πτυχίο της Ιατρικής Βιοχημείας το 2006. Επιστρέφοντας στην Κύπρο, εντάχθηκε στο νεοσύστατο Αρεταίειο Νοσοκομείο στη Λευκωσία ως μέλος του Κλινικού Εργαστηρίου. Κατά τη διάρκεια της εκεί παρουσίας του, έγινε δεκτός ως μεταπτυχιακός φοιτητής Ανοσολογίας και Ανοσογενετικής στο University of Manchester. Εστιάζοντας το ερευνητικό του ενδιαφέρον στην παθογένεια των αυτοάνοσων νοσημάτων, μελέτησε τις μεταβολές των επιπέδων δύο αδιποκινών, της λεπτίνης και της αδιπονεκτίνης, καθώς και την πιθανή χρησιμότητα τους ως δείκτες φλεγμονής σε ασθενείς με ενεργή ρευματοειδή αρθρίτιδα. Από τον Οκτώβριο του 2019 είναι διδακτορικός ερευνητής στο Τμήμα Φαρμακευτικής της Σχολής Επιστημών Υγείας του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick στοχεύοντας στη διερεύνηση και αξιολόγηση διαφόρων βιοχημικών και γενετικών παραμέτρων ως δυνητικοί διαγνωστικοί παράγοντες σε νεαρούς έφηβους με καθυστέρηση εφηβείας. Είναι εγκεκριμένος/πιστοποιημένος βιολόγος (CBiol) και μέλος (MRSB) του Βασιλικού Συνδέσμου Βιολογίας Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου καθώς και μέλος της Βιολογικής Εταιρείας Κύπρου, όπου συμμετέχει στην Επιτροπή Υγείας. Επιπρόσθετα είναι μέλος του Συνδέσμου Βιοχημείας Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου, λαμβάνοντας μέρος στην Επιτροπή Βραβεύσεων καθώς και στη Ομάδα Αξιολόγησης Επιστημονικών Χορηγιών. Είναι εγγεγραμμένος στο Ινστιτούτο Βιοϊατρικών Επιστημών Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου (MIBMS), στο Βρετανικό Σύνδέσμο Ανοσολογίας, στο Βρετανικό Σύνδεσμο Αντιμικροβιακής Χημειοθεραπείας, στην Ελληνική Εταιρεία Ανοσολογίας, στο Σωματείο Βιολογικών Επιστημών Κύπρου και στον Κυπριακό Σύνδεσμο Διευθυντών Κλινικών Εργαστηρίων, Βιοϊατρικών και Κλινικών Εργαστηριακών Επιστημόνων. Από τον Οκτώβριο του 2015 συνεργάζεται με το Τμήμα Φαρμακευτικής της Σχολής Επιστημών Υγείας του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick ως Ειδικό Διδακτικό Προσωπικό προπτυχιακών και μεταπτυχιακών προγραμμάτων σε θέματα Κλινικής Βιοχημείας και Ανοσολογίας.

Nectarios Nicolaou is active in the field of Clinical Biosciences for over fifteen years. He began his studies at Intercollege, Nicosia, Cyprus and the University of Indianapolis, USA, achieving a Diploma in Pre-Medicine. Subsequently, he studied at Kingston University, London, UK and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Biochemistry in 2006. Returning to Cyprus, he joined the newly established Aretaeio Hospital in Nicosia, as a member of the Clinical Laboratory department. While there, he was accepted as a postgraduate student in Immunology and Immunogenetics at the University of Manchester, UK. Focusing his research interest on the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, he investigated the changes of the levels of two adipokines, leptin and adiponectin, as well as their potential use as inflammatory markers in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis. As of October 2019, he is a doctoral researcher at the Department of Pharmacy, School of Health Sciences, Frederick University, Nicosia, Cyprus, aiming to investigate and evaluate various biochemical and genetic parameters as potential diagnostic factors in young adolescents with delayed puberty. He is a Chartered Biologist (CBiol) and Member of the Royal Society of Biology (MRSB) as well as a member of the Biological Society of Cyprus where he sits on the Health Committee. In addition, he is a member of the Biochemical Society, participating in the Awards Committee and the Scientific Outreach Grants reviewing team. He is a registered member of the Institute of Biomedical Science (MIBMS), the British Society for Immunology, the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, the Hellenic Society of Immunology, the Society of Biological Sciences in Cyprus and the Cyprus Association of Clinical Laboratory Directors, Biomedical and Clinical Laboratory Scientists. As of October 2015, he collaborates with the Department of Pharmacy, School of Health Sciences at Frederick University in Nicosia as Special Teaching Staff for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes on the topics of Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology.
