Alan Selby is the current co-ordinator of the EOOW (Engineer Officer of the Watch) professional competency program of the Cyprus Marine Technology Academy (CyMarTA) of Frederick University where he lectures in Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture. In a career at sea spanning some twenty-five years from trainee through to Chief Engineer he has served in all types of commercial vessels from submersibles to passenger ships and just about everything between. On coming ashore, he has worked with several Ship Owning and Ship Management companies in the UK and Cyprus, initially as a Technical Superintendent then subsequently as Fleet and Technical Manager. Although now retired from business in addition to his teaching activities he maintains an active participation in several maritime forums and occasionally takes on selected projects related to ship survey, conversion or repair from preferred clients.
