Mr. Panayiotis Michael

Short CV

Panayiotis Michael studied Graphic Arts at the State Academic Art Institute V.I. Surikov in Moscow (BA, MFA), and Fine Arts at Queens College in New York (MFA). He is an Associate Professor and Dean of the Arts, Communication and Cultural Studies School at Frederick University.Between November 2019 and February 2024, he was the Vice Dean of the School, and between January 2019 and October 2019, he was the Head of the Arts and Communication Department. His teaching field is concentrated in the areas of Fine Art in the BA Applied Arts and the MA in Visual Arts. His major research and artistic interest focuses around the notion of transitional periods as a process of identity construction, and the ways in which identity as a fluid process of formation and re-formation can contribute to other positive changes in our social environment, behavioural background, political and personal ethics, etc. Panayiotis Michael co-represented Cyprus at Venice Biennial, 2005; XX Alexandria Biennial, 1999; and Rijeka Biennial, 1997. He participated in ev+a Limerick Biennial, 2006; Roaming Images (Thessaloniki Biennale), 2011; and Occupation: Unknown, Manifesta Coffee Break, Liverpool Biennial 2004; Leaps of Faith, Nicosia, Cyprus, 2005; and A Consuption of Justice, Diyarbakir Art Center, Diyarbakir, Turkey, 2005. He is a co-founder of pick nick (art group). He was artist in residence at: Point Centre for Contemporary Art, Nicosia (2018); Embassy of Foreign Artists, Geneva (2017);Capacete, Rio de Janeiro (2016); HIAP, Helsinki (2016); Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin (2013); Apartment Project, Istanbul (2013); The Artists Residence, Herzliya (2005). Ο Παναγιώτης Μιχαήλ σπούδασε Γραφικές Τέχνες στο Κρατικό Ακαδημαϊκό ινστιτούτο Τέχνης V.I. Surikov στη Μόσχα και Καλές Τέχνες στο Queens College στη Νέα Υόρκη (MFA). Είναι αναπληρωτής καθηγητής και Κοσμήτορας της Σχολής Τεχνών, Επικοινωνίας και Πολιτισμικών Σπουδών στο Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick. Διετέλεσε Αναπληρωτής Κοσμήτορας της σχολής ( Νοέμβριος 2019 - Φεβρουάριος 2024) και την περίοδο και πρόεδρος του τμήματος Τεχνών και Επικοινωνίας (Ιανουάριος 2019 - Οκτώβριος 2019). Το διδακτικό του πεδίο επικεντρώνεται στους τομείς των Καλών Τεχνών στο BA Applied Arts και στο MA in Visual Arts. Το κύριο ερευνητικό και καλλιτεχνικό του ενδιαφέρον επικεντρώνεται στην έννοια των μεταβατικών περιόδων ως διαδικασίες κατασκευής ταυτότητας και στους τρόπους με τους οποίους η ταυτότητα ως μια ρευστή διαδικασία συνεχούς διαμόρφωσης μπορεί να συμβάλει σε άλλες θετικές αλλαγές στο κοινωνικό μας περιβάλλον, το συμπεριφορικό υπόβαθρο, την πολιτική και προσωπική ηθική κ.λπ. Ο Παναγιώτης Μιχαήλ εκπροσώπησε την Κύπρο στη Μπιενάλε Βενετίας (2005) και στις Μπιενάλε Αλεξάνδρειας (1999) και Rijeka (1997). Επίσης, συμμετείχε στη Μπιενάλε Limerick (2006), στην έκθεση Roaming Images, στο πλαίσιο της 3ης Μπιενάλε Θεσσαλονίκης και στο Occupation: Unknown, Manifesta Coffee Break, στο πλαίσιο της Μπιενάλε Λίβερπουλ (2004). Επίσης, μεταξύ άλλων, έλαβε μέρος στις διεθνείς εκθέσεις Leaps of Faith στη Λευκωσία (2005) και A Consuption of Justice, στο Diyarbakir Art Center, στην πόλη Diyarbakir της Τουρκίας (2005). Είναι συνιδρυτής της καλλιτεχνικής ομάδας pick nick (2012-σήμερα). Φιλοξενήθηκε στα καλλιτεχνικά κέντρα φιλοξενίας Point Centre for Contemporary Art (Λευκωσία 2018), Embassy of Foreign Artists (Γενεύη 2017), Switzerland;Capacete (Ρίο Ντι Τζανέιρο 2016), HIAP (Ελσίνκι 2016), Kunstlerhaus Bethanien (Βερολίνο 2013), Apartment Project (Κωνσταντινούπολη 2013), και The Artists Residence (Χερζλίγια 2005).
