Dr. Loucia Demetriou

Loucia Dimitriou was born in Athens, Greece in 1961. She received her B.Sc. (1979/83), M.S. (1983/85) and Ph.D. in Psychology (1988) from the University of Cologne, Germany while working as a Research Associate there (1986-88). She taught Psychology as an Adjunct Assistant Prof. at the University of Trenton, N.J. (1990-1993) Developmental Psychology for the State University of New York (1990-1995) as well as for Frederick Institute of Technology (1993-2007). Since 2007 she has tenure as an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and Social Sciences of Frederick University. She teaches various classes in Psychology in the undergraduate Program (i.e. Developmental Psychology, Cross-Cultural Psychology, Positive Psychology and Resilience) as well as classes in Counseling in the Graduate Programs of the School of Education and Social Sciences. She served as Head of the Department of Pre Primary Education from 2007-2008 and from 2008 – 2011 she headed the Department of Primary Education. Currently she is Vice Dean of the School of Education and Social Sciences and Head of the Department of Psychology and Social Sciences at Frederick University. She is the author of the book “The first 6 years of life» published by Pedio, Athens (2012,7th edition) and coauthor of the book “Antisocial Behavior in the Cypriot Youth, Racistic Tendencies”, published by Savvoulas (2005). She has participated in funded research projects in Cyprus and abroad and has a number of journal publications and participations in international conferences. Her research interests lie mainly in Socialization and the Parental Acceptance – Rejection Theory in Cross-Cultural Perspective, Psychological Effects of Resilience in times of Austerity and Counseling for Life-Long Learning.

Η Λουκία Δημητρίου είναι Aναπληρώτρια Kαθηγήτρια ψυχολογίας στο Τμήμα Ψυχολογίας και Κοινωνικών Επιστημών του πανεπιστημίου Frederick από το 2007. Γεννημένη στην Αθήνα το 1961, πήρε το διδακτορικό της στην Ψυχολογία από το Πανεπιστήμιο Albertus Magnus της Κολωνίας στη Γερμανία το 1988. Έκτοτε έχει διδάξει μαθήματα ψυχολογίας σε προπτυχιακά και μεταπτυχιακά προγράμματα των πανεπιστημίων University of Trenton, N.J. και State University of New York (SUNY). Διετέλεσε πρόεδρος του Τμήματος Δημοτικής Εκπαίδευσης (2007-2011), αναπληρώτρια Κοσμήτορας της Σχολής Επιστημών της Αγωγής και Κοινωνικών Επιστημών (2017-2019) και πρόεδρος του Τμήματος Ψυχολογίας και Κοινωνικών Επιστημών του πανεπιστημίου Frederick (2018-σήμερα). Είναι συντονίστρια του μεταπτυχιακού προγράμματος Συμβουλευτική και Επαγγελματική Αγωγή, ενώ είναι επόπτρια διδακτορικών φοιτητών στους τομείς της Συμβουλευτικής για γονεϊκή επάρκεια στην κοινωνικοποίηση, της Συμβουλευτικής στη διαδικασία λήψης επαγγελματικής απόφασης, καθώς και της Συμβουλευτικής για χρόνιες ασθένειες παιδιών και εφήβων. Συμμετέχει σε ερευνητικά προγράμματα με επιστημονικούς συνεργάτες στην Κύπρο και στο εξωτερικό και έχει δημοσιευμένο επιστημονικό έργο σε περιοδικά και σε πρακτικά διεθνών συνεδρίων. Τα κύρια ερευνητικά της ενδιαφέροντα επικεντρώνονται στη διαδικασία της κοινωνικοποίησης και έμφαση στη θεωρία Αποδοχής-Απόριψης στο διαπολιτισμικό πλαίσιο, στις ψυχοκοινωνικές επιδράσεις της ανθεκτικότητας κάτω από συνθήκες λιτότητας και στη εφ’ όρου ζωής συμβουλευτική διαδικασία.
