Overview

The Research Unit, "New and Emergent Technologies in Education" explores the dynamic intersection of technology and learning, aiming to investigate the latest advancements and their impact on educational practices.

It explores the transformative potential of cutting-edge technologies in shaping the future of education. The Unit delves into the forefront of educational innovation, examining emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Adaptive Learning Systems, Gamified Learning Environments, Simulations, Robotics and Programming. It scrutinizes how these technologies reshape traditional educational paradigms, offering new possibilities for personalized learning experiences, collaboration, engagement, interactivity and assessment. The Unit investigates the impact of these technologies on various aspects of education, including teaching methods, educational material development, student assessment, skills development, etc. By scrutinizing these technologies, the Unit seeks to uncover their potential to address challenges in education, such as improving accessibility, enhancing student motivation, engagement and interaction. Additionally, it aims to enhance students’ and educators’ digital literacy skills as well as other 21st century, transversal, and soft skills.

Through interdisciplinary approaches, the Research Unit aims to provide insights into effective integration strategies, best practices, and future directions for leveraging new and emergent technologies in diverse educational contexts. Ultimately, the Unit aims to contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding the transformative role of technology in education, empowering educators, policymakers, and stakeholders to harness these innovations effectively for the benefit of learners worldwide. By examining these emerging trends, we aim to equip educators and learners with the tools to navigate the ever-evolving educational landscape.
