TEACHING AND RESEARCH
Eliminating stereotypes
At Frederick University, gender mainstreaming and the elimination of stereotypes and bias in both Teaching and Research are fundamental principles. Two dedicated sub-groups within the Center are actively driving initiatives to promote gender equality and address gender-based violence in these areas.
Gender Perspectives in Teaching
The Center has initiated a comprehensive mapping process to assess the integration of gender perspectives in teaching. This initiative marks the beginning of a broader effort to enhance the quality of education, ensuring a more inclusive and enriching academic experience for our students and the wider community.
The University, based on this mapping, aims to encourage faculty members to integrate gender perspectives into their teaching, course materials, projects, and assignments while fostering discussions on relevant topics.
Gender Perspectives in Research
To increase the participation of women researchers, the University has introduced targeted measures in its internal research funding calls. In September 2022 and December 2024, a key requirement was set: at least 40% of the budget must be allocated to proposals led by female professors, provided they meet the evaluation criteria. Furthermore, the latest call includes an additional incentive—proposals in STEM disciplines that incorporate the recruitment of a female researcher receive an extra point in their overall evaluation score.
The University is also developing targeted training seminars and workshops on integrating gender perspectives into specific research areas. These sessions aim to identify and engage subject-matter experts who can provide tailored insights for each discipline. This initiative will enhance the relevance and impact of research while improving the overall quality and applicability of research outcomes.
These actions reflect Frederick University’s ongoing commitment to fostering a more equitable academic environment, where gender equality is not only encouraged but actively supported.
