(a) The public lecture “Democratic Education for Social Justice [Δημοκρατική Εκπαίδευση και Κοινωνική Δικαιοσύνη]” was presented by William Ayers, Distinguished Professor of Education and Senior University Scholar, University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, USA, on March 16, 2011 at “Veregaria” Room, Evagoras Lanitis Center, Limassol, Cyprus. Welcome address was delivered by Dr Photis Panayides, Chairman of Events Committee of Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), Limassol, Cyprus. Opening Remarks were delivered by Dr Nikoletta Christodoulou, Lecturer of Curriculum and Instruction, Frederick University, Nicosia, Cyprus. The lecture was organized by Frederick University in collaboration with CUT. William Ayers was visiting Cyprus as a guest of Frederick Research Center within the Research Promotion Foundation funded “Cyprus Oral History Project”. Certificates of attendance were given to all participants.
(b) The open lecture and discussion “Human Rights and Social Justice: The Indispensable Role of Education in the Democratic Project [Ανθρώπινα Δικαιώματα και Κοινωνική Δικαιοσύνη: Ο Καθοριστικός Ρόλος της Εκπαίδευσης στο Δημοκρατικό Εγχείρημα]” was presented by William Ayers, Distinguished Professor of Education and Senior University Scholar, University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, USA, on Monday, March 21, 2011, at Seminar Room 3, New Wing, Frederick University, Nicosia, Cyprus. The lecture was organized by Frederick University in collaboration with the Cyprus Committee of the World Organisation for Early Childhood Education (ΟΜΕΡ) and the Association for Social Reform (ΟΠΕΚ). Discussion and remarks entitled, “A school for children with rights” were delivered by Dr Kyriakos Paxoulides on behalf of the Commissioner for Children’s Rights. Welcome Addresses were also delivered by Dr George Demosthenous, Vice-Rector, Frederick University, Dr Eleni Loizou, Vice President of ΟΜΕΡ Cyprus, Assistant Professor, University of Cyprus and Dr Maria Karayiannis, ΟΠΕΚ member. Dr Nikoletta Christodoulou, Lecturer, Frederick University and Vice Secretary of ΟΜΕΡ Cyprus, was chairing and monitoring the discussion. William Ayers was visiting Cyprus as a guest of Frederick Research Center within the Research Promotion Foundation funded “Cyprus Oral History Project”. Certificates of attendance were given to all participants.
