Dr. Alexis Polycarpou

Short CV

Dr. Alexis Polycarpou received his BEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of the West of England in Bristol, followed by an MSc in Electrical Power systems from the University of Bath. While being a member of the Power Systems and Electronics Research Group of UWE, Bristol, he was employed as a Visiting Lecturer and received his PhD in Electrical power systems and power quality. He then worked as an international research and development engineer for Siemens AG, Amberg, Germany. He is currently an Associate Professor and Erasmus coordinator at the Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Informatics Department of Frederick University, Cyprus. He is also the coordinator of the undergraduate program in Renewable energy sources and Energy sustainability. Dr. Polycarpou is currently the Vice Dean of the Engineering School at Frederick University. His teaching includes Undergraduate and postgraduate courses of the ME and DECEI departments. He participated in various local and European projects, and is research resulted to a number of publications including two books, a book chapter and a number of journal and conference papers in the areas of analysis of power systems, power system stability, protection, power quality, smart grids and energy efficiency. Dr. Polycarpou is charted engineer of the IET, the Vice chair of the IET Cyprus Network, a member of the Communities Resource Committee (CRC) of the IET UK, a member of the IEEE Power Engineering Society, of the Cyprus CIGRE committee, and the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber.

Ο Δρ Αλέξης Πολυκάρπου έλαβε πτυχίο BEng στην Ηλεκτρολογική και Ηλεκτρονική Μηχανική από το University of the West of England στο Μπρίστολ, ακολουθούμενο από μεταπτυχιακό στα συστήματα ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Bath. Ενώ ήταν μέλος της Ερευνητικής Ομάδας Συστημάτων Ισχύος και Ηλεκτρονικών του UWE, Μπρίστολ, εργάστηκε ως Επισκέπτης Λέκτορας και έλαβε το διδακτορικό του δίπλωμα στα συστήματα ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας και την ποιότητα ισχύος. Στη συνέχεια εργάστηκε ως διεθνής μηχανικός έρευνας και ανάπτυξης για τη Siemens AG, Amberg, Γερμανία. Σήμερα είναι Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής και συντονιστής Erasmus στο Τμήμα Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών, Μηχανικών Η/Υ και Πληροφορικής του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick της Κύπρου. Είναι επίσης συντονιστής του προπτυχιακού προγράμματος στις Ανανεώσιμες Πηγές Ενέργειας και την Ενεργειακή αειφορία. Ο Δρ. Πολυκάρπου είναι Αναπληρωτής Κοσμήτορας της Πολυτεχνικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick. Η διδασκαλία του περιλαμβάνει προπτυχιακά και μεταπτυχιακά μαθήματα των τμημάτων ΜΕ και DECEI. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε διάφορα τοπικά και ευρωπαϊκά προγράμματα και έχει σειρά δημοσιεύσεων, συμπεριλαμβανομένων δύο βιβλίων, ενός κεφαλαίου βιβλίου και πολλών άρθρων σε περιοδικά και συνέδρια στους τομείς της ανάλυσης των συστημάτων ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας, της σταθερότητας του συστήματος ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας, της προστασίας, της ποιότητας ισχύος, των έξυπνων δικτύων και της ενεργειακής απόδοσης. Ο Δρ Πολυκάρπου είναι μηχανικός του IET, αντιπρόεδρος του IET Cyprus Network, μέλος της Επιτροπής CRC του IET UK, μέλος του IEEE Power Engineering Society, της επιτροπής CIGRE Κύπρου και του Επιστημονικού και Τεχνικού Επιμελητηρίου Κύπρου.
