Sophia Giazitzidou is a Post-doctoral researcher at Dalhousie University in Canada. She holds a PhD in Educational Psychology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2021). Her research interests focus on children’s literacy development and especially how morphological mechanisms and orthographic learning support reading development in students with and without reading problems. Sophia has gained three scholarships for her PhD research. Currently, she is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellow. Her project is a cross-language longitudinal study, which aims to explore the underlying skills of the orthographic learning mechanism. Sophia has published articles in international journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters and she has participated as a trainer in numerous seminars for undergraduate and graduate teachers, psychologists and speech therapists. She has also published specially designed books for reading fluency instruction of students with reading difficulties, which are approved by the Ministry of Education of Cyprus. Sophia has worked as a contract lecturer in a Master Program at University of Crete, in a Bachelor Program at University of Peloponnese and in the Center of Training and Lifelong Learning of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.Furthermore, she is a collaborative academic staff at Frederick University in Cyprus and she is teaching distance learning courses at the MEd Special Education program of study.
