Dr. Harris Papadopoulos

Short CV

Harris Papadopoulos is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Informatics of Frederick University, where he is heading the Computational Intelligence (COIN) Laboratory. He also holds the position of Visiting Fellow at the Computer Learning Research Centre of Royal Holloway, University of London, UK. His research primarily focuses on the development of advanced Machine Learning techniques that provide probabilistically valid uncertainty quantification for each prediction under minimal assumptions, and on their application to a diverse array of challenges in various scientific fields. He has published more than 70 research papers in prestigious international refereed journals and conferences in the field of Machine Learning. He was co-editor of the book “Measures of Complexity: Festschrift in Honor of Alexey Chervonenkis” published by Springer in 2015, which was dedicated to one of the most significant figures of the field. He has been involved in several funded research projects with a total budget of more than 6M euro, frequently taking the lead as the coordinator and initiator. Direct funding to his Lab over the past five years exceeds 1.5M euro. He has also secured an industrial grant for the application of Machine Learning techniques to large volumes of data, from one of the biggest international consulting companies for complicated assets. He served as an Associate Editor of the Evolving Systems Journal (Springer) from 2015 to 2018 and as guest editor and reviewer for numerous esteemed scientific journals. Additionally, he served as one of the main organizers of several international conferences and workshops (General Chair of COPA 2023 and AIAI 2013, Organizing Chair of AIAI 2010, PC Chair of eight conferences and Chair of nine workshops).

Ο Χάρης Παπαδόπουλος είναι Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών, Μηχανικών Η/Υ και Πληροφορικής του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick, όπου διευθύνει το ερευνητικό εργαστήριο Υπολογιστικής Νοημοσύνης (COIN). Κατέχει επίσης τη θέση του Visiting Fellow στο Computer Learning Research Centre του Royal Holloway, University of London, UK. Η έρευνά του εστιάζει κυρίως στην ανάπτυξη προηγμένων τεχνικών Μηχανικής Μάθησης που παρέχουν έγκυρη εκτίμηση αβεβαιότητας για κάθε πρόβλεψη υπό ελάχιστες υποθέσεις, και στην εφαρμογή τους σε ένα ευρύ φάσμα προκλήσεων σε διάφορα επιστημονικά πεδία. Έχει δημοσιεύσει περισσότερες από 70 ερευνητικές εργασίες σε έγκριτα διεθνή περιοδικά και συνέδρια στον τομέα Μηχανικής Μάθησης. Ήταν συν-επιμελητής του βιβλίου “Measures of Complexity: Festschrift in Honor of Alexey Chervonenkis” που δημοσιεύτηκε από τον Springer το 2015, το οποίο ήταν αφιερωμένο σε μία από τις σημαντικότερες προσωπικότητες του τομέα. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε χρηματοδοτούμενα ερευνητικά προγράμματα συνολικού προϋπολογισμού άνω των 6 εκατομμυρίων ευρώ, αναλαμβάνοντας συχνά την ηγεσία ως συντονιστής και εμπνευστής. Η άμεση χρηματοδότηση του εργαστηρίου του την τελευταία πενταετία υπερβαίνει τo 1.5 εκατομμύριο ευρώ. Έχει επίσης εξασφαλίσει βιομηχανική επιχορήγηση για την εφαρμογή τεχνικών Μηχανικής Μάθησης σε μεγάλους όγκους δεδομένων, από μία από τις μεγαλύτερες διεθνώς συμβουλευτικές εταιρείες για περίπλοκα περιουσιακά στοιχεία. Διετέλεσε Associate Editor του περιοδικού Evolving Systems (Springer) από το 2015 έως το 2018 και προσκεκλημένος επιμελητής και κριτής σε πολλά έγκριτα επιστημονικά περιοδικά. Επιπλέον, διετέλεσε ως ένας από τους κύριους διοργανωτές αρκετών διεθνών συνεδρίων και εργαστηρίων (General Chair του COPA 2023 και του AIAI 2013, Organizing Chair του AIAI 2010, PC Chair οκτώ συνεδρίων και Chair εννέα εργαστηρίων).
