CALLSThe PhD Program in Management provides a framework for state-of-the-art research in a wide-range of management disciplines. It is a research-based program that aims to produce high-level scientific research and to create graduates of international recognition capable of contributing to the advancement of academic knowledge. The Program offers research specialization in the main disciplines and related fields which are the focus of the School’s Departments. It aims to:
- Attract well-qualified students and give them the opportunity to carry out focused research under supervision and guidance in areas of mutual interest;
- Develop students’ knowledge, skills and expertise, to perform high quality theoretical and applied research in a wide variety of business-related and multi-disciplinary areas, such as, finance, economics, management, marketing, maritime, transport operations, logistics.
Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:
1. Acquire an in-depth knowledge of the literature relevant to their focused research and demonstrate understanding of tools and techniques used in the specific field of study.
2. Perform significant research showing originality in the application of knowledge and a practical understanding of how research is used to advance knowledge in a specific discipline(s).
3. Critically analyse, assess and apply theories, research techniques, methodologies and knowledge to address fundamental questions in their area of study.
4. Demonstrate independent, critical and creative thinking in formulating ideas and hypotheses, problem solving and planning and implementation of research.
5. Develop oral and written communication skills that are needed to publish and present work in their own discipline.
6. Enhance the abilities of independent learning and research design in a way that can contribute to continuous professional development.
7. Produce work of publishable quality.
Academic Requirements
Eligible applicants must hold a university degree, Bachelor’s or Master’s, granted by an institution recognized in the country where it operates, in a scientific discipline, such as, Accounting & Finance, Economics, Maritime and Transport, Engineering, Law, Life Sciences, Social Sciences, showing evidence of high academic performance. Applicants who do not hold their first degree at the time of application, but are expected to obtain such a degree before the commencement of the Doctoral Program, are also eligible to apply.
English Language Requirements
All candidates must have a good knowledge of the English language.
Application Procedure
Admission to the Doctoral Program is possible either via application to the Program in response of a Specific Call for Doctoral positions in the School or via direct application to the Program by interested candidates.
Applicants must submit their applications to the University’s Admissions Office which will then be forwarded to the Doctoral Program Committee of the School for evaluation. Each application for admission should include:
- A completed application form, available here
- A Curriculum Vitae indicating the candidate’s academic qualifications, work experience, awards, etc.
- A brief Research Proposal in the area in which the candidate is interested in conducting research.
- Two letters of recommendation, at least one from an academic referee.
- Certified copies of all degrees and transcripts.
- Copies of any other supporting material, such as exams, awards, etc.
- Proof of English language proficiency, such as, the TOEFL, IELTS, GCSE, or other equivalent language examinations. Candidates, who have completed an undergraduate or graduate program where the language of instruction was English, automatically satisfy the proof of English language proficiency requirement.
Admissions Evaluation Procedure
All applications for admission are evaluated by the School’s Doctoral Program Committee. The selection process is based on the following evaluation criteria:
- Academic qualifications
- Research potential
- Letters of recommendation
- Additional qualifications
- Personal Interview
The successful award of the PhD degree (180 ECTS) requires:
- Successful completion of Graduate Master’s level coursework.
- Successful completion of Doctoral level coursework for specialist modules related to the specific field of study.
- Passing of the PhD Qualifying Examination.
- Successful defense of the Doctoral Research Proposal.
- Participation in graduate level research seminars and conferences.
- Acceptance for publication of research papers in refereed international journals or conferences
- Successful defense of the Doctoral Dissertation.
Program Recognition / Accreditation
All Programs of Study offered by Frederick University have been evaluated by external academic committees and have been approved by the Evaluation Committee for Private Universities (ECPU) and, since November 2015, all the new University programs have been evaluated and accredited by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA). All Programs of Study are recognised by the Cyprus Council of Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications (KY.S.A.T.S.). Frederick University’s degrees are also recognised by DOATAP (Hellenic NARIC – National Academic Recognition Information Centre) as equivalent to the corresponding degrees of Greek Higher Education Institutions.
