Dr. Emilios Charalambides

Dr. Emilios Charalambides is Assistant Professor of Political Science at Frederick University. He joined the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2005. He has been a Lecturer of Creative Drama at the School of Education (Preprimary and Lower Primary Teacher Education) at the Frederick Institute of Technology (from 2001 until 2008). He received the academic degree Magister der Philosophie (1997) at the University of Vienna, Austria in Political Science combined with Theatre Studies and Philosophy and later on he received the academic title Doktor der Philosophie (2000) at the same University in Political Science and Theatre Studies. He has also received a scholarship from the Fulbright Commission Cyprus (Short Term Training Cyprus – America Scholarship Program, 2006) on Educational Theatre at the Steinhard Department of Education, New York University. He worked as a producer at the Television News Agency of the European Commission (Europe by Satellite), General Direction X (Information, Communication, Culture and Audiovisual Media) at the European Union, Brussels (1998 - 1999). He has produced, translated and directed several plays for the theatre. He taught Dramatology at the Vladimiros Kafkarides Drama School (2002 – 2013). He participated at various international Conferences with articles concerning political theatre, dramaturgical and cultural analysis. He was a member of the Artistic Committee of the Theatre Organisation of Cyprus for the period 2013 – 2015. He is an elected Member of the Secretariat of the Cyprus Centre of the International Theatre Institute (2020 – 2023 and 2023 – 2026). He is the founder of the theatre group Prima Lux (2015). His research interests are Political Theatre in Cyprus, Culture and Politics, Cultural Analysis, Political Education through Drama and Radio Drama.

Ο Δρ. Αιμίλιος Χαραλαμπίδης είναι Επίκουρος Καθηγητής Πολιτικών Επιστημών στο Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick. Ενσωματώθηκε στη Σχολή Ανθρωπιστικών και Κοινωνικών Επιστημών το 2005, ενώ υπήρξε Λέκτορας με ειδικότητα στο Δημιουργικό Δράμα στη Σχολή Επιστημών της Εκπαίδευσης στο Frederick Institute of Technology (από το 2001 μέχρι το 2008). Κατέχει τον ακαδημαϊκό τίτλο Magister der Philosophie (1997) από το Πανεπιστήμιο της Βιέννης στις Πολιτικές Επιστήμες σε συνδυασμό με τις Θεατρικές Σπουδές και τη Φιλοσοφία. Στη συνέχεια κατέλαβε τον ακαδημαϊκό τίτλο Doktor der Philosophie (2000) στο ίδιο Πανεπιστήμιο στις Πολιτικές και Θεατρικές Επιστήμες. Πήρε επίσης μια υποτροφία από το Fulbright Commission Cyprus (Short Term Training Cyprus – America Scholarship Program, 2006) με θέμα το Εκπαιδευτικό Θέατρο στο Steinhard Department of Education, New York University. Εργάστηκε ως παραγωγός στο τηλεοπτικό πρακτορείο ειδήσεων της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής (Europe by Satellite), Γενική Διεύθυνση X (Πληροφορίες, Επικοινωνία, Πολιτισμός Οπτικοακουστικά Μέσα) στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση στις Βρυξέλλες (1998 - 1999). Εργάστηκε ως παραγωγός, μεταφραστής και σκηνοθέτης σε σειρά θεατρικών έργων. Δίδαξε το μάθημα της Δραματολογίας στη Δραματική Σχολή Βλαδίμηρος Καυκαρίδης (2002 – 2013). Συμμετείχε σε διάφορα διεθνή συνέδρια με ανακοινώσεις αναφορικά με το πολιτικό θέατρο, τη δραματουργική και πολιτισμική ανάλυση. Υπήρξε μέλος της Καλλιτεχνικής Επιτροπής του Θεατρικού Οργανισμού Κύπρου την περίοδο 2013 – 2015. Υπήρξε και παραμένει εκλεγμένο μέλος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου του Κυπριακού Κέντρου του Διεθνούς Ινστιτούτου Θεάτρου κατέχοντας τη θέση του Γραμματέα για τις περιόδους 2020 – 2023 και 2023 – 2026. Είναι ο ιδρυτής της θεατρικής ομάδας Prima Lux (2015). Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα είναι: το πολιτικό θέατρο στην Κύπρο, πολιτισμός και πολιτική, πολιτισμική ανάλυση, πολιτική αγωγή μέσω του δράματος και ραδιοφωνικό δράμα.
