Among Europe’s top universities in the U-Multirank Ranking System

Following last years’ strong performance in the global U-Multirank university ranking system, Frederick University achieved even higher results in the 2022 edition, compared to local and other European universities.

More specifically, in the general ranking, in which Universities’ performance is measured across all criteria, Frederick University ranked 139th among 1103 European universities and 194th internationally, among the 2068 Universities from all over the world that were evaluated. At the same time, it showed top performance across various performance indicators, with ‘A’ score (the highest score) in 7 categories, in the fields of International Orientation, Regional Engagement, Research, and Knowledge Transfer. As a result, Frederick University ranked second among twenty Universities from Cyprus and Greece that have been included in this ranking.

Frederick University achieves year on year higher performance in the global ranking system U-Multirank, which is supported and funded by the European Commission, and allows users to compare Universities around the world across various performance indicators, on the aspects that most interest them. #1 in Cyprus and Greece in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023

The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings measure Universities’ research, teaching, outreach and stewardship against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, academic institutions are invited to submit metrics for SDG17 (Partnership for the Goals), which explores how Universities educate the next generation on sustainability, and at least three other SDGs of their choice.

In the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023, Frederick University ranked among the top 201-300 Universities, the only University in Cyprus and Greece to achieve this. It has also scored highly for its positive impact and meaningful work on specific SDGs, having ranked 44th globally for Quality Education and 100th for Affordable and Clean Energy.

In 2022, Frederick University ranked among the top 101-200 Universities in the world in all four categories that were considered for its overall score, making it one of only two Universities in Cyprus and Greece (out of a total of fifteen participating Universities) which overall ranked in the top 301-400 Universities worldwide. Frederick University ranked among the top 101-200 universities in the world in:

Frederick University is a member of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network. The Network promotes practical solutions to modern challenges through the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations. As a member of the Network, Frederick University contributes to finding solutions to global challenges, by connecting with other sustainable development experts and collaborating with them on research, solutions initiatives, and policy work. In addition, Frederick University is one of the founding members of the newly established Cyprus branch of the Sustainable Solutions Network, which aims to work closely with all sectors of society towards improving Cyprus' performance in the implementation of the Goals.

Member of EU-Conexus, a transnational alliance focused on smart urban coastal sustainability

Frederick University has joined EU-CONEXUS, a consortium of European universities focused on smart urban coastal sustainability. EU-CONEXUS has been selected by the European Commission as one of 41 European University Alliances in the framework of the European Universities’ initiative. EU-CONEXUS’ mission is to develop innovative educational and research methods and interdisciplinary approaches in the field of blue growth. EU-CONEXUS is an alliance between La Rochelle Université (France), the Agricultural University of Athens (Greece), the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (Romania), Klaipeda University (Lithuania), the Universidad Catοlica de Valencia “San Vicente Mαrtir” (Spain) and the University of Zadar (Croatia), Frederick University (Cyprus), South East Technological University (Ireland) and the University of Rostock (Germany), who are united around the common values of sustainability, novelty and expertise to address the challenges that urbanised coastal areas face.

Golden Protector of the Environment 2023

Frederick University has been honored with the Golden Protector of the Environment Award for the year 2023, granted by the Environmental Research and Education Centre and the Environment Commissioner. The award is annually presented to an organization that incorporates the environmental dimension as an integral part of its policy framework, implementing practices that protect the environment and promote sustainable development.
Frederick University stands out for its dedication to respect and preserve the environment, integrating the environmental dimension in the entire range of its activities. Further, the University implements campaigns to raise environmental awareness among its faculty, students, partners and the society at large, demonstrating a profound commitment to environmental responsibility.  

One of the few universities in Europe to receive the E-xcellence Label

As of the academic year 2019-2020, Frederick University is among the few European Universities that received the E-xcellence Label for Associates in Quality; a recognition of the continuous process of improving its e-learning performance. The label was granted by the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU), Europe’s leading institutional association in online, open and flexible learning. The E-xcellence Associates in Quality label, demonstrates that Frederick University offers quality controlled e-learning and keeps up to date with the latest developments. The E-xcellence Associates are focusing on the improvement of four priority elements of progressive higher education: Accessibility, Flexibility, Interactiveness and Personalisation.

UNESCO Chair in Life Long Learning and Adult Education

In 2020 Frederick University was awarded a Chair in the field of “Lifelong Learning and Adult Education” by UNESCO. The University’s Rector, Prof. George Demosthenous, is Chair Holder of the UNESCO Chair. The UNESCO Chair aims to study Lifelong Learning and Adult Education activities in South and Southeast Asia, compared with relevant practices applied in the European Union, in order to develop an integrated system of research, training, information and documentation activities, to establish lifelong learning strategies concerning the teaching and learning processes at different educational levels and in different educational settings (formal, informal and non-formal) in all partnership’s countries. Such activities will include dissemination of good practices through publications, followed by the development of educational modules, organisation of training courses, Workshops, Conferences and bilateral visits, aiming to promote Lifelong Learning and Adult Education in the above countries, as well as in Europe, utilising also Information and Communication Technology, in an effort to acquire new knowledge and skills which will allow adult citizens to have access to more social; and economic opportunities.

Frederick University’s proposal was supported by the House of Representatives of Cyprus, by all the Ministries of Cyprus, the Cyprus National Commission of UNESCO, Institutions of Higher Education from Asia and Europe, numerous governmental and non-governmental organizations, foundations and the former Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth of the European Union, Ms Androulla Vassiliou.

Frederick University is a EURAXESS Service Center. EURAXESS - Researchers in Motion is a unique pan-European initiative (network) delivering information and support services to professional researchers. Backed by the European Union, member states and associated countries, it supports researcher mobility and career development, while enhancing scientific collaboration between Europe and the world.
As a EURAXESS Service Center, Frederick University provides to researchers services related to Accommodation, Research Funding Opportunities, Job Opportunities, Entry Conditions - Visas, and Health Insurance.
