Overview

The Research Unit for Historical Constructional Structures overall aims to the Constructional Analysis and Restoration of Historical Structures and Monuments. 

Specifically, it aims to: 
  • Scientifically locate, analyze and distinguish the constructional system and the typology of the monument as well as its specific features.
  • Recognize and record the pathology and vulnerability of a monument or a historic structure.
  • Associate the pathology of the construction with all the possible causes, including those that are likely to occur in the future.
  • Develop the ability to analyze and record technical information about the construction method and technique used in the initial or later phases during the life of a historic building.
The Unit's main activities include:
  • Dealing with Historical Complexes, Archaeological Sites, Historical Structures and Monuments
  • Historical, Typological, Morphological Analysis and Documentation
  • Geometrical Documentation (Conventional and/or Digital Methods)
  • Constructional and Structural System Analysis
  • Pathology and Vulnerability Recording and Assessment
  • Design of Immediate Rescue Measures
  • Restoration Proposals
