Limassol hosted a wonderful Graduation Ceremony on June 22nd

Frederick University has established the tradition of opening its graduation ceremonies in Limassol, the second city where the University has had a strong presence and continues to grow over the years. This year’s ceremony took place on Sunday, June 22.

The Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Dr Nicodemos Damianou was the honorary guest at the ceremony, during which students who completed their studies in the 24 academic programs offered by Frederick University in Limassol officially graduated.

In his address, the Deputy Minister congratulated the University, referring to it as "an institution of recognized prestige, with important international distinctions, a living hub of knowledge, innovation, and social contribution."

Dr. Damianou also praised the University’s commitment to educational quality and its alignment with the real needs of society, the economy, and the labor market—contributing to the shaping of a new generation of scientists, professionals, and active citizens. Addressing the graduates, he encouraged them to continue learning, exploring, and creating, armed with the knowledge they acquired at the University.

In his speech, the University’s Rector, Professor George Demosthenous, emphasized that 2025 is a landmark year for Frederick University’s academic community, as it marks 60 years of continuous contribution to education in Cyprus. Addressing the graduates, the Rector stated:

"It would be strange not to question whether international law truly exists when children are being killed or left to starve—right here in our own region. Equally strange would be not feeling the urge to take your future into your own hands and work toward a more humane world. Only you have the power to bring light where there is darkness. The road ahead may not always be straight, but the path you follow will be your own.

You leave this University not with less uncertainty than when you first arrived, but with far greater strength, deeper knowledge, and a light within you.

Thank you for the life you brought to our University—for your ideas, your questions, your dreams, and your laughter. For the things you challenged, and especially for the questions that remain unanswered.

Go forward with courage—but never forget where you started, or who you have the power to become.”

The President of the University Council, Ms. Natassa Frederickou, also delivered a speech during the ceremony, announcing the University’s most recent success: its continued recognition in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, which assess universities globally based on their performance in promoting and adopting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Frederick University was once again ranked as the top university in Cyprus, maintaining this leading position for the third consecutive year.

She also announced the construction of a new building in Limassol to support the strategic expansion of the University’s School of Health Sciences, as well as the completion of planning for new academic Departments and Schools—many of which will be based in Limassol and are expected to begin operation in September 2027.

A particularly emotional moment during the ceremony was the screening of a message from the University’s founder, Michael Frederickou, originally delivered 38 years ago during a past graduation ceremony. In it, he congratulated the graduates of that time, assuring them they would always be part of the Frederick University community.

Another highlight of the evening was the live streaming with Professor Jeffrey Sachs, internationally renowned scholar and perhaps the most influential living economist, as well as a video message by Professor Georgios Babiniotis, distinguished linguist. Both are among Frederick University’s six Honorary Doctors.

During the ceremony, graduate Nicoletta Hadjicosti, a Law School graduate and the top-performing undergraduate student across all Limassol-based degree programs, delivered the graduate address on behalf of the entire graduating class.

The ceremony concluded with the awarding of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, the formal graduation of Law School students, and the presentation of qualifications from Frederick Institute of Technology for the 2024–25 academic year.

Frederick University warmly congratulates its graduates and sincerely thanks their families and friends, as well as the distinguished guests who honored the Graduation Ceremony with their presence.

All graduation ceremonies are available to watch on Frederick University’s official YouTube channel.
