Prof. Sotiris Omirou

Dr. Sotiris Omirou is a professor at the department of Mechanical Engineering of Frederick University since September 2007. He received his MSc. diploma (5 years program) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Gheorghe Asachi Polytechnic Institute of Iasi in Romania (1984) and his PhD degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Patras in Greece (1991). Prior to his current position he served as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Patras Greece (1991-2003) and Research Associate and Teaching Assistant (1985-1991) at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Patras. He currently teaches in undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the School of Engineering of Frederick University and specifically in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. His research interests are focused on CAD/CAM and CNC manufacturing methods. Specific topics include development of new interpolation algorithms for complex curves, motion generation, new CNC canned cycles, CNC programming of complex geometries. He is the author of two technical books, and he has published a significant number of scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals. He is involved in various funded research projects. He also acts as an invited reviewer for the Computer Aided Design Journal, the International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology and the journal of Robotics and Computer Integrated Manufacturing.

Ο Δρ. Σωτήρης Ομήρου είναι καθηγητής στο τμήμα Μηχανολόγων Μηχανικών του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick από τον Σεπτέμβρη του 2007. Απέκτησε το δίπλωμα MSc. (πρόγραμμα 5 ετών) στην Μηχανολογία από το Πολυτεχνείο του Iasi στη Ρουμανία (1984) και το διδακτορικό του δίπλωμα από το Τμήμα Μηχανολόγων Μηχανικών του Πανεπιστημίου της Πάτρας στην Ελλάδα (1991). Πριν από την τρέχουσα του θέση, υπηρέτησε ως Επίκουρος Καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Μηχανολογίας του Τεχνολογικού Εκπαιδευτικού Ιδρύματος (ΤΕΙ) της Πάτρας στην Ελλάδα (1991-2003) και ως Επιστημονικός Συνεργάτης (1985-1991) στο Τμήμα Μηχανολόγων Μηχανικών του Πανεπιστημίου της Πάτρας. Διδάσκει σε προπτυχιακά και μεταπτυχιακά προγράμματα στη Σχολή Μηχανικής του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick και συγκεκριμένα στο Τμήμα Μηχανολόγων Μηχανικών. Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα επικεντρώνονται στις μεθόδους CAD/CAM και κατεργασίες σε εργαλειομηχανές CNC. Συγκεκριμένα θέματα περιλαμβάνουν την ανάπτυξη νέων αλγορίθμων παρεμβολής για πολύπλοκες καμπύλες, τη παραγωγή κίνησης, νέους κύκλους κατεργασίας και προγραμματισμό κατασκευών με σύνθετες γεωμετρίες. Είναι συγγραφέας δύο τεχνικών βιβλίων και έχει δημοσιεύσει ένα σημαντικό αριθμό επιστημονικών άρθρων σε διεθνή περιοδικά με κριτές. Συμμετέχει σε διάφορα χρηματοδοτούμενα ερευνητικά έργα. Επίσης, είναι αξιολογητής στα επιστημονικά περιοδικά Computer Aided Design, International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology και Robotics and Computer Integrated Manufacturing.
