Η κυριά Μαρία Σπανού είναι κάτοχος Πτυχίου Πολιτικού Μηχανικού καθώς και MSc στη Δομική Μηχανική από το πανεπιστήμιο Frederick. Επίσης είναι υποψήφια διδάκτωρ στο ίδιο πανεπιστήμιο ενώ ταυτόχρονα εργάζεται και διδάσκει ως εργαστηριακό διδακτικό προσωπικό στο Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick στο τμήμα πολιτικών μηχανικών και ως ερευνητής στο ερευνητικό κέντρο Frederick. Η κ. Σπανού διδάσκει σε προπτυχιακά προγράμματα σπουδών στη Πολυτεχνική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick, συγκεκριμένα στο Τμήμα Πολιτικών Μηχανικών, στο Τμήμα Μηχανολόγων Μηχανικών, στο Τμήμα Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών, Μηχανικών Ηλεκτρονικών Υπολογιστών και Πληροφορικής. Εργάστηκε ως επιβλέπων και μελετητής πολιτικός μηχανικός στην Κύπρο στον ιδιωτικό τομέα, συμμετέχοντας σε πολλά έργα. Η εμπειρία που αποκτήθηκε μέσα από τα χρόνια εργασίας είναι σε τεχνικό αλλά και σε θεωρητικό επίπεδο όσο αφορά το τομέα του Πολιτικού μηχανικού και σε τεχνικές δεξιότητες στη χρήση και διαχείριση εργαστηριακού εξοπλισμού και πολλών λογισμικών. Το επίκεντρο της έρευνάς της αφορά την Τεχνολογία σκυροδέματος και τα Γεωπολυμερή Σκυροδέματα με ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον στη χρήση και την αξιοποίηση πολλών απορριμμάτων όπως η διαβασική λάσπη για την ανάπτυξη καινοτόμων δομικών υλικών. Είναι μέλος του Επιστημονικού και Τεχνικού Επιμελητηρίου Κύπρου (ΕΤΕΚ) και μέλος του Συνδέσμου Πολιτικών Μηχανικών Κύπρου.

Mrs. Maria Spanou holds a BSc in Civil Engineering and an MSc in Structural Engineering from Frederick University. She is also a PhD candidate at the same university while simultaneously working and teaching as a laboratory faculty member in the Civil Engineering department at Frederick University and as a researcher at the Frederick Research Center. Mrs. Spanou teaches in undergraduate programs of studies in the School of Engineering, particularly in the Civil Engineering Department, the Mechanical Engineering Department, the Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Informatics. She worked as a site civil engineer and as a structural designer in Cyprus in the private sector, participating in many projects. The experience gained through the years of work is at a technical and theoretical level as far as the field of Civil Engineering is concerned and in technical skills in the use and management of laboratory equipment and softwares. Her research focuses on Concrete Technology and Geopolymer Concretes with particular interest in the valorization of several waste materials such as diabase mud for the development of innovative building materials. She is a member of the Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK) and a member of the Association of Civil Engineers of Cyprus.
