Short CV
Christiana Constantinou was born in Nicosia, Cyprus. She holds a (Hon) Bachelor and a Master’s Degree in Visual Communication from the University of Central England (UCE) in Birmingham, focusing on Photography and Graphic Design. In 2000 joined the Applied Arts Faculty at Frederick University and teaches Photography and Computer Art courses. She has been actively involved in the Department on several academic issues as well as organizing and cureting various students’ photography exhibitions and events. From 2021 organizes and write training programs related the art and design area. Since 1998 she has shown her work in several group exhibitions and as an artist has been involved in organization of multiple art projects and photography exhibitions. In Fall 2022 and Spring 2024 she worked at Minjiang University, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, People’s Republic of China. There she has taught graphic design courses, created the photography club which she is leading and has been active member of variety of committees and initiatives. Ms Constantinou also works as a freelancer in the area of photography and graphic design, collaborating with brands within the Cyprus Industry and Theatre Teams. Through the lens, Christiana Constantinou, expresses personal views and emotions of the world, focusing on people and the everyday environment. Her work has theatrical elements such as colour, movement and dramatic lighting. Much of her photographic art is seen as autobiographical, therefore the characters who inhabit her pictures, are people she knows, giving her work an intimate and personal dimension. She stays true to her vision by ‘narrating’ and exposing people’s emotions. At the moment she is in the process of creating work using photography and digital art; research themes are arising from personal experiences, body, spaces and spirituality.
