Ms. Stella Evangelidou

Short CV

Stella Evangelidou is a practicing architect and an adjunct faculty member at the Frederick University. She has a Master’s degree in History and Theory of Art (TEPAK), a Bachelor of Architecture (University of Waterloo, Canada) and an HND in Building Technology (Frederick Polytechnic). Her education was enhanced with extra studies in Interior Design, Cultural Criticism and Fine Arts. She worked as an architect in offices in Toronto and New York and as a set-design assistant at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Her studio is a multidisciplinary practice combining architecture, art, design and research, with distinctions in architecture and furniture competitions in Cyprus and abroad. She participated in several architectural conferences and art exhibitions and has been the curator and editor of architectural exhibitions, conferences and publications. Stella taught studio and theoretical courses in architecture at the Frederick University (2010-today) and at the University of Nicosia (2008-2010). Her research field concerns interdisciplinary approaches with emphasis on phenomenology, on the artistic, the socio-political and the cultural landscape, as well as on the history of Cypriot modern architecture in relation to colonialism and the Mediterranean. Her active involvement in the commons includes participation in various local and international committees for the promotion of architecture. She has been an honorary member of the Cyprus Architects Association, which she represents at the Union of Mediterranean Architects (UMAR, 2018-2025) and at the international committee ‘International Women in Architecture’ of the International Union of Architects (UIA, 2021-2023). She is currently the coordinator of the Modern Heritage Committee of the UMAR and a member in ETEK committees on architectural heritage.

Στέλλα Ευαγγελίδου είναι αρχιτέκτονας και ειδικός επιστήμων στο Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick. Κατέχει μεταπτυχιακό δίπλωμα στην Ιστορία και Θεωρία της Τέχνης (ΤΕΠΑΚ), πτυχίο Αρχιτεκτονικής (Πανεπιστήμιο Waterloo, Καναδά) και δίπλωμα HND στο Building Technology (Frederick Polytechnic). Η εκπαίδευση της περιλαμβάνει επιπλέον σπουδές στο Interior Design, στο Cultural Criticism και στις Καλές Τέχνες. Εργάστηκε ως αρχιτέκτονας σε γραφεία στο Τορόντο και Νέα Υόρκη και ως βοηθός σκηνογράφος στην Καναδική Ραδιοτηλεόραση. Το στούντιο της αποτελεί ένα διεπιστημονικό πεδίο όπου συνδέει την αρχιτεκτονική με την τέχνη, το έπιπλο και την έρευνα, με διακρίσεις σε διαγωνισμούς αρχιτεκτονικής και επίπλου, στην Κύπρο και στο εξωτερικό. Έχει λάβει μέρος σε αρκετά αρχιτεκτονικά συνέδρια και σε ομαδικές καλλιτεχνικές εκθέσεις και υπήρξε επιμελήτρια αρχιτεκτονικών συνεδρίων και εκθέσεων και εκδόσεων. Η Στέλλα έχει διδάξει εργαστηριακά και θεωρητικά μαθήματα στο Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick (2010-σήμερα) και στο Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας (2008-2010). Το ερευνητικό της πεδίο αφορά διεπιστημονικές προσεγγίσεις με έμφαση στη φαινομενολογική προσέγγιση της Αρχιτεκτονικής, στο πολιτιστικό και κοινωνικοπολιτικό πεδίο, καθώς και στον Κυπριακό Μοντερνισμό σε σχέση με την Μεσόγειο και την αποικιοκρατία. Η ενεργή συμμετοχή της στα κοινά, περιλαμβάνει συμμετοχή σε διάφορες επιτροπές για την προώθηση της Αρχιτεκτονικής. Υπήρξε αριστίνδην μέλος του Συλλόγου Αρχιτεκτόνων Κύπρου, τον οποίο και εκπροσωπεί στο Σύνδεσμο Αρχιτεκτόνων της Μεσογείου (UMAR, 2018-2025) και στη διεθνή επιτροπή ‘International Women in Architecture’ της Διεθνούς Ένωσης Αρχιτεκτόνων (UIA, 2021-2023). Είναι συντονίστρια της Επιτροπής της UMAR για την Κληρονομιά του Μοντέρνου και μέλος επιτροπών του ΕΤΕΚ για την αρχιτεκτονική κληρονομιά.
