Dr. Panayiotis Louca

Short CV

Dr Panayiotis Louca is a Science Educator and an Educational Research Methodologist. He is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Frederick University since September 2015. He holds a B.Ed. in Primary Education (1998) and he is a certified teacher with substantial teaching experience. He also holds an M.Sc. in Educational Research from the University of Manchester (2000) and a Ph.D. in Science Education from the University of Cyprus (2010). His doctoral dissertation dealt with the factors involved in on-line argumentation ability of undergraduate student teachers for scientific and socioscientific issues. Dr Louca is currently teaching research methodology and science education courses for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of study within the School of Educational Sciences and Social Science. His research interests lie in the areas of innovative teaching techniques in science education, innovative data elicitation techniques and quality assurance in higher education. He has supervised PhD students that completed dissertations regarding the use of conceptual change texts and simulations for teaching the particulate nature of matter and the role of science centers in learning scientific concepts. He is currently supervising doctoral students who are researching the integration of augmented reality in teaching interventions aiming to develop students understanding of electromagnetic fields and the comparison of various analogical reasoning-based teaching techniques. Dr Louca has participated in many EU funded projects such as the COST programme Action WEBDATANET, a multidisciplinary European network regarding web-based data collection, the education for sustainable development projects such as the ICTeESD (Erasmus-Virtual Campuses), the CLIMASP project (Tempus), the UE4SD project (LLP) and the RSP project. He is currently participating in the CABCIN project (Erasmus+) and the CSCR project (Horizon 2020 Teaming Project). He is a Member in various scientific associations in Cyprus and abroad and served as a Board Member of the Gender Research Centre of Cyprus, participating in a number of locally funded gender equality research projects regarding the gender dimension in science, entrepreneurship and employment.

Ο Δρ Παναγιώτης Λουκά είναι ειδικευμένος σε θέματα Μεθοδολογίας Έρευνας και Διδακτικής των Φυσικών Επιστημών. Εργάζεται από το 1998 σε δημόσια δημοτικά σχολεία της Κύπρου. Είναι Επισκέπτης Επίκουρος Καθηγητής στο Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick από τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2015. Κατέχει Πτυχίο στις Επιστήμες της Αγωγής - Δημοτική Εκπαίδευση από το Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου. Κατέχει επίσης Μεταπτυχιακό MSc στη Μεθοδολογία Εκπαιδευτικής Έρευνας από το University of Manchester και Διδακτορικό στη Μάθηση στις Φυσικές Επιστήμες από το Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου. Η διδακτορική του διατριβή ασχολήθηκε με τις δεξιότητες επιστημονικής επιχειρηματολογίας φοιτητών σε περιβάλλον ηλεκτρονικής μάθησης σε σχέση με επιστημονικά και κοινωνικοεπιστημονικά θέματα. Ο Δρ Λουκά επί του παρόντος διδάσκει στη Σχολή Επιστημών Αγωγής και Κοινωνικών Επιστημών μαθήματα μεθοδολογίας έρευνας και διδακτικής των φυσικών επιστημών σε προπτυχιακά και μεταπτυχιακά προγράμματα σπουδών. Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζονται στις καινοτόμες διδακτικές προσεγγίσεις στη μάθηση στις Φυσικές Επιστήμες, στις σύγχρονες μεθόδους συλλογής και ανάλυσης ερευνητικών δεδομένων, καθώς επίσης και σε θέματα που αφορούν τη διασφάλιση της ποιότητας στην εκπαίδευση. Έχει επίσης συμμετάσχει σε χρηματοδοτούμενα ερευνητικά προγράμματα και προγράμματα δια βίου μάθησης της ΕΕ, όπως το ICTeESD, RSP, CLIMASP, CABCIN και CSCR. Ο Δρ Λουκά επέβλεψε επίσης διδακτορικούς φοιτητές που εκπόνησαν διατριβές με θέματα όπως: η αξιοποίηση κειμένων εννοιολογικής αλλαγής και προσομοιώσεων για τη διδασκαλία της σωματιδιακής φύσης της ύλης και την αξιοποίηση των μουσείων επιστήμης στη μάθηση εννοιών των φυσικών επιστημών. Αυτή την περίοδοι επιβλέπει διδακτορική διατριβή για την ενσωμάτωση της επαυξημένης πραγματικότητας (augmented reality) στη διδασκαλία εννοιών του ηλεκτρομαγνητισμού.
