Short CV
Evagoras Xydas holds a Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering (University of Cyprus, 2011) and a M.Sc. in Assistive Technology (King’s College London, 2003). He has also studied at Budapest University of Technology and Economics (B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, 2002) and at the Higher Technical Institute in Cyprus (HND in Mechanical Engineering, 1998). His general background is in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on data acquisition, and dynamic systems modeling, simulation and control. His postgraduate studies were concentrated on Rehabilitation Robotics and Assistive Technology, and more specifically on gait biomechanics, upper–limb human motor-control and human–robot interaction. More specifically, in the capacity of his PhD research, he has developed and tested a haptic-interface-based robotic system for the upper limb rehabilitation, in complex three dimensional reaching tasks, for people with Multiple Sclerosis. Currently, he is employed as a part-time visiting lecturer at the Mechanical Engineering department of Frederick University where he teaches topics in the areas of mechanical vibrations, control engineering and system modeling and dynamics. In parallel he is working on research in the areas of rehabilitation robotics, vibro-tactile displays and human motor-control.
