From Lab to Sea: SARISA USV completes first trial in Limassol
Frederick University’s Robotics and Automated Systems Lab (RAS Lab) has revealed its latest custom-built Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV), called SARISA.
SARISA has successfully completed its first sea trial in Limassol, with navigation, maneuvering, and sensor checks conducted under real conditions—a key milestone toward full deployment.
From initial design and hull development to the fabrication of robotic systems and sea trials in open waters, this new USV was developed by students and researchers at the RAS Lab, led by Dr. Giorgos Demetriou, a faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Informatics at the University’s School of Engineering.
In addition to the specialized research carried out by its team, the RAS Lab is also one of the University’s Active Student Units, where students engage in non-formal, co-curricular activities that complement their classroom education.
