Frederick Research Center 3rd nationwide in securing funding from the Research and Innovation Foundation

Frederick Research Center (FRC) is recognized as one of the most significant research centers in Cyprus, after ranking 3rd among 473 beneficiaries for securing funding for research and innovation projects.

According to data released by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), Frederick Research Center ranks 3rd following the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT). The RIF, which is the national body responsible for supporting and promoting research, technological development, and innovation in Cyprus, recently published cumulative funding data for all beneficiaries from 2016 to May 2024. The University of Cyprus received a total of €42.3 million, the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) €16.7 million, and Frederick Research Center €8.9 million.

Among the beneficiaries of the funding -amounting to over 180 million euros- are universities, research centers, businesses, startups, local authorities, and other entities operating in Cyprus. The financial support was provided by the RIF for research and innovation purposes through highly competitive Calls, under the RESTART Program for the period 2016-2024.

"The fact that Frederick Research Center secured the third largest funding, taking into account the additional €12+ million from European programs over the same period, is yet another testament to the very important work being done by our academics and researchers, both qualitatively and quantitatively, in the research field" said Mr. Alexis Onoufriou, Director of the Research and Interconnection Service at Frederick University and Director of the FRC. "Considering that Frederick Research Center holds this position compared to organizations and institutions much larger in resources and capacity, then we are really talking about a huge success," he added.

It is noted that the research output of Frederick University and Frederick Research Center is among the highest in Cyprus, as shown by reliable analyses, and works systematically and methodically to secure and utilize funds through competitive research programs.

Over the past decade, researchers have participated in more than 260 research and innovation projects and have developed cutting-edge laboratories across all their activity areas, many of which excel internationally. Engineering, Information and Communication Technologies, Environment, Health Sciences, Education, and Sustainable Energy Systems are just a few of the research fields of Frederick Research Center and Frederick University.
