DOWNLOAD BROCHUREThe Master of Science in Advanced Health Care offers two specialization options:
A. Community Health Care
or
B. Emergency Health Care
With the completion of this Programme students are expected to:
1. Familiarize themselves with knowledge and modern approaches to health, illness and their determinants.
2. Familiarize themselves in health risk prevention, health promotion, care and rehabilitation activities in persons, families and groups in the community.
3. Plan effective interventions to address emergency health care needs.
4. Assess the health and care needs of the person, family and population groups in the community.
5. Understand the concept of health risk, how to assess it, and plan and implement family health promotion and disease prevention activities.
6. Apply theory to the design, implementation and evaluation of interventions in Primary Health Care.
7. Analyze the concepts of clinical management and administration of health services and convert estimated health and care needs into primary health care, public and community health policies.
8. Design preventive practices for the treatment, transmission of various diseases and the promotion of health.
9. Integrate new technologies into care plans.
10. Cultivate team spirit in order to achieve and promote optimal health goals.
11. Develop communication, empathy and moral skills as required in the field of Community health care
12. Investigate and critically evaluate the literature on issues related to the practical application of knowledge in the field of advanced health care.
13. Apply standards, guidelines, best practices and proven practices in the design and implementation of the nursing care plan.
In Cyprus there is a significant shortage of specialized health professionals with MSc Specialization in the field of Health. The promotion of the implementation of the General Health System by the Ministry of Health and the specificity of this Program that is the first MSc in Cyprus focusing on Advanced Care directions, in Community Health Care and a second in Emergency Health Care will lead to attracting new candidates.
The graduates of the Advanced Health Care MSc Program are employed in the whole range of Health Care structures such as rural clinics, health centers, private and public home care settings and elderly care settings as well as in emergency departments.
Graduates can also work in autonomous clinics - hospitals, in large business units such as factories or schools. In particular, those who specialize in Emergency Health Care, in relation to their basic degree, can staff secondary and tertiary hospitals in surgical departments, plastic surgery departments, burn units, ICU. Even in combination with their clinical experience, they can work in health care and/or pharmaceutical companies as specialists in acute trauma and ostomy (wound specialist, tissue viability nurse, stoma therapist).
It is worth noting that our graduates, upon completion of their studies and obtaining the postgraduate degree, the institutions in which they work utilize them and assign them specialized tasks corresponding to their postgraduate studies. A typical example is the decision of the Ministry of Health of Cyprus when in 2018 it created at the Nicosia General Hospital a scientific nursing team for recording, evaluating and monitoring patients with drowsiness, all participants are graduates of this MSc Program.
Today the Ministry of Health has decided to implement this pilot program gradually in all public hospitals and the academic staff of the program will contribute to this through the memorandum of cooperation signed between the School of Health Sciences of Frederick University and the Department of Nursing. Of Cyprus.
Moreover, graduates can pursue further postgraduate studies at doctoral level.
Student Admission Requirements
According to University regulations and the nature of the program, postgraduate applicants must submit a tertiary bachelor degree relative to health sciences, social sciences and humanities, such as nursing, Pharmaceuticals, Social Work, Public Health, Physiotherapy, Health Visiting, and other related Departments. Candidates are admitted upon application to the Department of Nursing of the School of Health Sciences.

• Additional qualifications (foreign languages, other postgraduate degrees etc.)

Prior Learning Recognition and Transfer Admission
Candidates who have completed university graduate level work in an accredited program are eligible to apply for transfer admission. Such candidates should, along with their application form, submit also the official transcripts (grade reports) and syllabi (course descriptions) for all University coursework taken to date.
Transcripts are evaluated by an ad-hoc Transfer Committee consisting of the Program supervisor and two other academic staff members, in order to determine the number of credits to be transferred, in accordance with the MSc in Advanced Health Care, curriculum requirements.
Transfer students, regardless of the number of credits transferred should complete at least two thirds (2/3) of the ECTS credits required by the program of study at Frederick University in order to be eligible for graduation. For a three (3) academic semester, 90 ECTS program, a transfer student must complete a minimum of two (2) academic semesters full time study (60 ECTS) in the MSc in Advanced Health Care in order to be eligible for graduation.
Restrictions set by professional bodies such as the Cyprus Nursing and Midwifery Council are also taken into consideration.
Each course will be assessed through a combination of:
- Personal course work in all courses during semester , the score of which covers 40% of the total grade
- Final exams in all courses at the end of the semester during examination period, the score of which covers 60% of the total grade
Dissertation: The program also includes the preparation of a dissertation of 15,000 words.
Graduation Requirements
Students are eligible for graduation after successfully completing 90 ECTS credits in the courses listed in the Program Structure.
Furthermore, a student can graduate only if their CGPA is greater or equal to 5.00 out of 10.00.
Graduating students with a CGPA less than 5.00 might have to take extra courses or repeat a number of courses in order to improve their grades.
Access to Further Studies
The graduates of the program will be able to proceed to further professional development programmes or academic studies, such as PhD programmes.
