The aim of the program is the provision of high quality academic education at a BA level and the promotion of Research in the fields of Journalism, Mass Media, Cultural and Social History, and the Social Sciences more broadly.

In the framework of this general aim, the program is structured so that it enhances, in a developmental process, the introduction, acquaintance, and eventually specialization of the students in the field of Journalism and in the analysis of the social-cultural function and dynamics of the Media. In this context (which is based on a liberal arts/humanistic studies framework) it is expected that the students will develop skills for, interpretation, organization, and transmission of information – in both Journalistic practice and in social science research. There is a special emphasis in this context on the use of scientific methodology and in the analysis of social reality during the exercise of the journalistic profession.

Through the encouragement of critical thought, the program of study aims to contribute towards the creation of new [aesthetic, cultural, political and social] forms of perceiving reality and comprehending the alternative possibilities which are possible in given historical circumstances and dynamics.

The language of instruction is Greek.

1. Produce knowledge through teaching and research on journalism and other forms of mass communication as well as other fields in the Humanities and the Social Sciences.
2. Employ critical thought in the context of historical, humanistic, and aesthetic forms of understanding the world.
3. Provide the skills which will enable the practical acquaintance of the students with professional and scientific issues and the handling of individual and group work contexts.
4. Demonstrate understanding of the theoretical knowledge and professional-technical skills of the field of Journalism.
5. Demonstrate understanding of the broader structures of public discourse on economic, political and cultural issues.
6. Demonstrate competency in conducting scientific research.
7. Develop competency to organize information and to employ forms and techniques of processing information so that the students can participate actively in the new interactive forms of mass communication.
8. Build skills which enhance the development of the students’ autonomy as responsible individuals with forms of social, cultural and political consciousness [as in the form of active citizenship].
The graduates of the Program have the knowledge and skills required to be employed in any print, electronic or online media organisation. They fulfil the requirements for employment as journalists/ reporters, editors, presenters, media or public relations persons in public or private organisations such as media organisations, embassies, political parties, businesses, cultural organisations or sports teams.
Specific Admission Requirements
There are no specific admission requirements for this Program. Candidates can be admitted to the Program only if they satisfy the general admission requirements of the University.

Recognition of Prior Learning
There are no specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning for this Program. Candidates can be granted transfer credits according to the general arrangements for recognition of prior learning of the University.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
There are no specific examination regulations, assessment and grading methods employed by this Program. The examination regulations, assessment methods and grading system for this Program are the same as the relevant general university regulations.

Graduation Requirements
Students are eligible for graduation after successfully completing 240 ECTS credits in the courses listed in the Program Structure.
Furthermore, a student can graduate only if their CGPA is greater or equal to 5.00 out of 10.00. Graduating students with a CGPA less than 5.00 might have to take extra courses or repeat a number of courses in order to improve their grades.

Access to Further Studies
The graduates of the Program have access to graduate studies (2nd and 3rd Cycle) in disciplines related with the disciplines of journalism media and communication.
