DOWNLOAD BROCHUREThe purpose of the Program "Physical Education and Sports Sciences" is to provide a high level academic education and applied knowledge for the vocational preparation of sports scientists and physical educators teachers, in the area of Sports, Recreation and Health. Graduates will acquire educational skills that will enable them to successfully work in the private and public sector of exercise and sport services. The curriculum offers knowledge in the theory and practice of physical education and sports, and in fields such as training, rehabilitation, tourism, recreation and health, while encouraging the production of new knowledge.
The program offers two directions, whereas according to the specialization major it offers, there is the possibility of obtaining a specialization either in Coaching in an Olympic sport or in the field of Health and Sports or Sports Tourism.
The Program "Physical Education and Sports Sciences" is in Greek and it is offered in Limassol.
It is expected that with completion of their studies, graduates will obtain:
1. The necessary training that will enable them to teach effectively the course of physical education in schools.
2. Knowledge and skills so that they can develop training programs in the field of sports based on training periodization principles and the multidisciplinary support of competitive sport preparation.
3. The necessary experiences to offer their services in the field of sports, recreation and health.
4. An integrated academic background and practical skills so that they can design specialised exercise programs that encapsulate the new knowledge produced and the new directions created for various population categories with a view to health and well-being.
5. Skills and abilities that will enable them to plan and organize outdoor recreational activities with the aim of developing and promoting sports tourism.
6. The necessary knowledge of the techniques, skills and methodologies for the teaching of sports in various ages with the required scientific knowledge from the sports sciences.
7. The appropriate skills that will enable them to carry out high-level research in the fields of physical education, sport and health.
Graduates of the "Physical Education and Sport Sciences” Program can be employed as sport scientists, physical education teachers and coaches in both the private and the public sector. In the private sector they have the opportunity to be employed in private primary and secondary schools, sports organizations/businesses, gyms, rehabilitation centers, private clubs, academies, groups, programs of recreational sport, while in the public sector graduates can teach in secondary education. Also, graduates have the opportunity to be employed as administrative employees to sports organizations and businesses of governmental and non-governmental sport organisations.
The program also provides the appropriate background expertise for those wishing to follow specific areas of sport and exercise studies, such as exercise physiology, sport management, sport psychology etc. or to pursue a career in research.
Graduates of the program can register to the Registration Board of Teachers of Physical Education and Sports of Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth as well as as instructors/trainers at the Cyprus Sports Organization.
As per University regulations, candidates can be admitted to the Program only if they satisfy the general admission requirements of the University.
In addition to the general entry requirements, applicants are admitted based on the average grade of the school leaving certificate from secondary education where a minimum grade of 80/100 (16/20) is required. Applicants interested in registering to the program that do not meet the requirements may be admitted after a personal interview. Additionally, applicants need to submit an Athletes Health Card given by the Cyprus Sports Organisation to comply with safety procedures.
Recognition of Prior Learning
There are no specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning for this Program. Candidates can be granted transfer credits according to the general arrangements for recognition of prior learning of the University.
As per University regulations, candidates can be admitted to the Program only if they satisfy the general admission requirements of the University.

There are no specific examination regulations, assessment and grading methods employed by this Program. The examination regulations, assessment methods and grading system for this Program are the same as the relevant general university regulations.
Graduation Requirements
Students are eligible for graduation after successfully completing 240 ECTS credits in the courses listed in the Program Structure.
Furthermore, a student can graduate only if their CGPA is greater or equal to 5.00 out of 10.00. Graduating students with a CGPA less than 5.00 might have to take extra courses or repeat a number of courses in order to improve their grades.
