Frederick University is holding a discussion titled "Climate Crisis: Cities and Design", with the participation of academics, urban planners, researchers, and experts in urban design from Cyprus and Greece.

The event aims to highlight the need for sustainable planning and development of cities to make them capable of adapting to the challenges of the climate crisis.

The event will take place on Thursday, May 4th, in the garden of the central building of Frederick University in Nicosia, and is open to the public. Examples and applications of urban design for urban resilience will be presented, with a particular focus on spatial planning for the fire-ravaged area of Mati in Attica, which was destroyed in 2018. This is the only area in Greece that is being redesigned with criteria for addressing the impacts of climate change. What are the lessons learned from this experience? In Cyprus, how are cities being planned for development? What gaps need to be addressed and how are climate-neutral cities achieved?

The event is organized by Frederick University's Department of Architecture, which has prioritized research on issues related to urban planning and climate change.
