Congratulations to our awarded students-athletes for achieving their dual career
We warmly congratulate all our students who excelled in sports during the 2023-2024 academic year, and thank them for their presence at this year's Students-Athletes Award Ceremony, held at Frederick University in Limassol on Thursday, May 23rd.
The Award Ceremony took place in a celebratory atmosphere in the grand amphitheatre of the University's Limassol campus. The event highlighted sports as an integral part of the University's culture and rewarded the student-athletes who successfully balance these two demanding roles.
The awards and medals were presented by Ms. Konstantina Pafiti, a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Sports Organization (CSO), former CSO President Mr. Andreas Michaelides, President of the Council of Frederick University Ms. Natassa Frederickou, Mayor of Germasogeia Mr. Kyriakos Xydias, Deputy Mayor of Ypsonas Mr. Cleanthis Karamanides, and Mr. Simos Koufallis, Municipal Councilor and Member of the Youth and Sports Committee of the Limassol Municipality.
In her address, the President of the Council emphasized the importance the university places on sports within its specialized academic programs, as well as its broad support for student-athletes through scholarships and other facilities. "We are particularly proud of you, not only for your athletic achievements but also for the dedication and passion you show towards your academic responsibilities. You manage to balance two demanding roles, making you worthy of admiration and exemplary models," Ms. Frederickou noted. The President of the Council especially thanked the University's Sports Office, which acts as a link between students and the University's academic staff, which ensures the best possible conditions for the students' dual careers.
Ms. Konstantina Pafiti, a member of the CSO Board of Directors, pointed out that the combination of studies and sports is the best a young person can make. Addressing the awardees, she said: "The valuable skills that the University provides you will be very useful in whichever path you choose in life. You deserve congratulations for managing to combine your studies and sports. You are shining examples for everyone." Ms. Pafiti also congratulated Frederick University both for the awards, as they are a significant motivation for student-athletes, and for the University's dedication to promoting and expanding sports in Cyprus.
Following the speeches, awards were given to athletes in individual and team sports of the Cyprus University Sports Federation (CUPF) who won first, second, or third place. Subsequently, Frederick University students who excelled in individual sports were awarded. Among them was sailing champion Marilena Makri, who will compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with the Cypriot delegation in July.
Frederick University congratulates all its students and wishes them every success in their future athletic endeavors.
