Frederick University hosts the concluding Conference of the GLOW research project
Frederick University hosted the final conference of the GLOW (Let’s Get Outside Now: Be, Learn, Grow Outdoors – GrowLearnOut) project on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the university's campus in Nicosia.
Funded by the European Erasmus+ program, the GLOW project aimed to promote outdoor learning and improve the well-being of children and young people by encouraging engagement with nature. The project employed a comparative approach, examining outdoor learning methods and outcomes across different countries to identify effective strategies. The goal was to develop international best practices that could enhance outdoor education and contribute to broader educational and policy frameworks globally.
The project's objectives included deepening the understanding of the connection between learning and meaningful experiences, strengthening children's relationship with nature, fostering collaboration between schools across Europe, and supporting teachers through the development of outdoor education methodologies. Additionally, it aimed to contribute to the adoption of outdoor education-related policies.
Throughout the project, which integrated these comparative approaches, an action framework was developed to guide the structure and content of learning activities for teachers, based on international best practices. A pedagogical methodology for outdoor learning was also created.
The project involved approximately 21 schools, 26 teachers, and around 200 children aged 3-7 from six different countries. It was coordinated by the DNA (Danish Nature Approach) in Denmark, with partners including Frederick University (Cyprus), Sølvstuffen barnehage (Norway), Synthesis (Cyprus), Eco Logic (Republic of North Macedonia), Centro Apoio Social de Paise Amigos da Escola no 10 (CASPAE) (Portugal), and Strom zivota (Slovakia).
