Training programs for the industry: Energy efficiency of buildings and Solar photovoltaic system installation

As part of its commitment to supporting local professionals and advancing industry expertise in energy efficiency and clean energy, Frederick University, in collaboration with the Frederick Training and Examination Center, is pleased to announce the launch of the Energy Efficiency of Buildings program and the Solar Photovoltaic System Installers (Category C) program.

These well-established training programs are offered three to four times per year at a subsidized rate for local professionals. The programs are led by recognized experts and academics with extensive experience in energy efficiency and clean energy.

By cultivating a skilled workforce to enhance energy efficiency in buildings and boost solar energy adoption, these programs support sustainable energy transitions, fostering reliable and clean energy for all.

Energy Efficiency of Buildings
This program is tailored for architects, civil engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, chemical engineers, and environmental engineers, equipping them with the skills needed to issue Building Energy Efficiency Certificates in compliance with current legislation. Upon program completion, participants can take exams to join the registry of qualified experts authorized to issue these certificates.
The training provides essential knowledge of Cypriot energy efficiency legislation, building materials, technical systems, heating and cooling load calculations, and the National Methodology for Energy Efficiency Calculation. Participants will also gain experience in conducting on-site energy audits, using approved software (e.g., iSBEM) for certification, and making actionable recommendations for improving building energy efficiency.
The program is subsidized by the Human Resource Development Authority (AnAD) for employees of companies and organizations, as well as for unemployed individuals. Hybrid workshops totaling 30 hours will be held from July 5 to July 15, 2023, combining online and in-person sessions.

Solar Photovoltaic System Installation
This program aligns with European Directive 2009/28/EC and Regulation K.D.P. 374/2015, and is certified by the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry (MECI). Program attendance and successful exam completion are mandatory for installers wishing to join MECI’s official Register of Photovoltaic System Installers.
Aimed at employees of businesses and organizations, particularly electrical engineers and technicians involved in energy planning and PV system installations, this training equips participants with skills in designing, installing, and troubleshooting PV systems. They will learn to select optimal equipment and placement, as well as to apply relevant health, safety, and regulatory standards in PV installation and maintenance.
Hybrid workshops totaling 45 hours will take place from March 14 to April 11, 2023, with both online and in-person sessions.
