Dr. Kyriacos Kyriacou

Prof Kyriacou holds the position of Professor at the Department of Pharmacy at Frederick University. Prof Kyriacou received his BSc degree in Biochemistry from the University of London in 1977 and his PhD from King’s College Medical School, in 1982 where he was also appointed as lecturer. Since 1991 he is working at CING as a Senior Scientist and Head of the Department of Electron Microscopy/Molecular Pathology. He was the founder of this department, which offers a centralized diagnostic ultrastructural service, as well as an extensive range of cancer genetic services, that diagnose cancer predisposition syndromes, as well identify actionable genetic targets for personalized medicine and oncogenetics. He is an internationally acclaimed expert on Electron Microscopy, as well as n Cancer Genetics. His main research interests include the genetic epidemiology and molecular pathology of cancer, ciliary disorders and cancer proteomics. He has been the coordinator of several research grants and has obtained more than 8,000,000 euros in competitive funding and has authored more than 130 peer reviewed articles. He participates as a representative of Cyprus in several Societies and advisory Scientific committees in Europe. He was appointed by the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation as the representative of Cyprus, in the EU-COST program, in the BMBS (Biomedicine and Biomolecular Sciences) domain. He is an active member of the of the Electron Microscopy working group which is part of the European Society of Pathology. He serves as a reviewer/evaluator for several scientific journals and research funding bodies.

Ο Δρ Κυριάκου έχει τη θέση Καθηγητή στο Τμήμα Φαρμακευτικής Πανεπιστημίου Frederick. Ο Δρ Κυριάκου έλαβε το πτυχίο του στη Βιοχημεία από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Λονδίνου το 1977 και το διδακτορικό του από την Ιατρική Σχολή του King's College, το 1982 όπου διορίστηκε και ως Λέκτορας. Από το 1991 εργάζεται στο CING ως Ανώτερος Επιστήμονας και Προϊστάμενος του Τμήματος Ηλεκτρονικής Μικροσκοπίας/Μοριακής Παθολογίας. Ήταν ο ιδρυτής αυτού του τμήματος, το οποίο προσφέρει διαγνωστικές υπηρεσίες για σύνδρομα καρκινικής προδιάθεσης, καθώς και προσδιορίζουν ενεργούς γενετικούς στόχους για εξατομικευμένη ιατρική και ογκογενετική. Είναι ένας διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένος ειδικός στην Ηλεκτρονική Μικροσκοπία, καθώς και στη Γενετική του Καρκίνου. Τα κύρια ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα περιλαμβάνουν τη γενετική επιδημιολογία και τη μοριακή παθολογία του καρκίνου. Υπήρξε συντονιστής πολλών ερευνητικών προγραμμάτων και έχει λάβει περισσότερα από 8.000.000 ευρώ σε χρηματοδότηση και έχει συγγράψει περισσότερα από 130 επιστημονικά άρθρα. Συμμετέχει ως εκπρόσωπος της Κύπρου σε πολλές Επιστημονικούς συνδέσμους και συμβουλευτικές Επιστημονικές Επιτροπές στην Ευρώπη. Διορίστηκε από το Ίδρυμα Προώθησης Έρευνας Κύπρου ως εκπρόσωπος της Κύπρου, στο πρόγραμμα EU-COST, στον τομέα BMBS (Βιοϊατρική και Βιομοριακές Επιστήμες). Είναι ενεργό μέλος της ομάδας εργασίας της Ηλεκτρονικής Μικροσκοπίας που αποτελεί μέρος της Ευρωπαϊκής Εταιρείας Παθολογίας. Υπηρετεί ως κριτής/αξιολογητής σε πολλά επιστημονικά περιοδικά και φορείς χρηματοδότησης έρευνας.
