Design for Play: Building awareness for a sustainable future

Students from our University's Department of Arts and Communication and the Department of Education designed and developed board games aimed at raising awareness for the Mediterranean monk seal, Monachus monachus.

The project, titled "Design for Play: Building Awareness for a Sustainable Future", was created in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries & Marine Research, within the framework of the Pandoteira project.

The presentation of the board games will take place on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 19:00 at Megaro Mitsi 1, where the end-of-year exhibition of students from the Department of Arts and Communication will also be hosted.

The games were designed by students from the programs of Primary Education, Visual Communication, and Interior Design, and were developed within the framework of Frederick University Living Lab (FULL), an educational initiative that provides students the opportunity to collaborate with social organizations, governmental bodies and companies. The contact with real challenges aims to broaden the students' skills and cultivate their awareness on sustainable development issues.

In this specific project, two of the partners of the "Pandoteira" project collaborated: Frederick University and the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment's Department of Fisheries and Marine Research. The "Pandoteira" project, within which the board games were funded, aims at the management of the Natura 2000 network in Cyprus. It is co-financed by the EU's LIFE Programme, coordinated by the Department of Environment, and includes 13 partners from Government Departments, Universities, Non-Profit Organizations, and private companies.
