Design for Play: Building awareness for a sustainable future

Students from Frederick University's Department of Arts and Communication and the Department of Education designed and developed board games aimed at raising awareness of the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus).

The project, titled "Design for Play: Building Awareness for a Sustainable Future," was created in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries & Marine Research, as part of the Pandoteira project.

The presentation of the board games will take place on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 19:00, at Megaro Mitsi 1, alongside the end-of-year exhibition of students from the Department of Arts and Communication.

The games were designed by students from the of Primary Education, Visual Communication, and Interior Design programs, and developed within the framework of the Frederick University Living Lab (FULL).  This educational initiative provides students with opportunities to collaborate with social organizations, governmental bodies, and companies. By working on real challenges, students enhance their skills and develop an awareness of sustainable development issues.

In this project, two partners of the "Pandoteira" project—Frederick University and the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment’s Department of Fisheries and Marine Research—collaborated. The Pandoteira project, which funded the board games, aims to manage the Natura 2000 network in Cyprus. It is co-financed by the EU’s LIFE Programme, coordinated by the Department of Environment, and involves 13 partners, including government departments, universities, NGOs, and private companies.
