Frederick Research Center announces the closing event of the “Smart Metasurfaces a Key Enabling Technology for Future 6G Communications” – SMURFS, a Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) funded project (EXCELLENCE/0421/0495). 

The event will be held on Friday June 28th, at 11:00, in Room 28, Main Building.

The project's aim was the advancment of RF electronics and the development of highly-directive, agile, and compact metasurface radiators that can be reconfigured programmatically.

Creating highly-directive yet compact and low-profile radiators is a significant challenge for RF engineers, and controlling the reflection phase can be even more difficult. However, these features are essential for Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs), which are poised to play a crucial role in future 6G communications.

The project focused on creating highly-directive, agile, and compact radiators that can be reconfigured programmatically, pushing the boundaries of what is currently possible in the field of RF electronics and metasurface radiator development. 

The project was coordinated by Frederick Research Center with lead researcher Prof. Symeon Nikolaou. 

The SMURFS Project has been co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Cyprus Government, through the THALIA 2021-2027 framework program of the Cyprus Research & Innovation Foundation (RIF).
