FUF Racing Team to present its formula-type race car at Daytona Raceway

After achieving 3rd place in the International Formula SAE Student Competition in Italy, the FUF Racing Team will present its Formula-type race car at Daytona Raceway, on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 17:00.

During the event, attendees will have the unique opportunity to witness the race car in action and interact with the team members. The Frederick University Formula Racing Team (FUF Racing Team) proudly stands as the first Cypriot university team to design and build a single-seater Formula racing car. Comprising students from various academic disciplines at the university, the team benefits from the guidance of their academic advisor, Professor Antonios Lontos, a faculty member of the School of Engineering.

At the Daytona event, Frederick University will celebrate the FUF Racing Team's impressive achievement of securing 3rd place in the overall ranking at the Formula SAE Italy competition, where they distinguished themselves among 18 university teams from around the globe in the competitive category of internal combustion engine vehicles. The 1st place was awarded to Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia (Italy), while the University of Applied Sciences, Aachen (Germany) took home 2nd place. The FUF Racing Team earned 3rd place in the categories of endurance and fuel consumption race, acceleration, skid pad, and autocross events. They also achieved 4th place in the static engineering design competition.

During the event, Frederick University will award the sponsors whose support was instrumental in this outstanding accomplishment.

This achievement not only honors Frederick University but elevates the Cypriot academic community as well, positioning Cyprus at the forefront of automotive engineering education. It exemplifies student involvement in applied research and innovation, a practice that Frederick University actively promotes through its co-curricular activities. The members of the FUF Racing Team have built their single-seater from the ground up, meticulously studying, designing, and constructing nearly all components of the car in the cutting-edge laboratories of the School of Engineering.
