Frederick University and I.A.CO Environmental & Water Consultants Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at developing a meaningful and mutually beneficial collaboration in the fields of education, research, and innovation.

The Memorandum was signed by the President of the Council of Frederick University, Ms. Natassa Frederickou, and the Director of I.A.CO, Mr. Agis Iakovides.

The signing ceremony took place at Frederick University in Nicosia. Representing I.A.CO were Mr. Marios Mouskountis, Head of the Water Resources Department, while Frederick University was represented by Mr. Alexis Onoufriou, Director of the Research and Interconnection Service, and Dr. Constantinos Kounnamas, Head of the Nature Conservation Unit.

The Memorandum includes, among other provisions, collaboration on research and innovation programmes in areas related to the implementation of the European Union Water Framework Directive. It also provides for student internships and the exchange of employment opportunities.

Ms. Frederickou stated:
“This Memorandum formally seals a collaboration that has already begun in practice and is delivering tangible results. It constitutes the next substantial step in further strengthening our shared course, for the benefit of the mission and strategic objectives of both organizations. We are ready to deepen our cooperation through targeted actions and projects related to environmental management, such as the new joint project we recently undertook for the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive - a synergy that can generate significant and long-term benefits for Cyprus and its society.”

From his side, Mr. Iakovides noted:
“Collaboration with academic and research institutions is extremely important, and we are confident that this partnership will deliver meaningful benefits for both organizations.”

The signing of the Memorandum creates substantial opportunities for student internships in areas connected to I.A.CO’s work and expertise, as well as to the students’ fields of study. Through this collaboration, Frederick University students will have the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience, apply their knowledge in practice, and further develop their skills in real working environments.

Frederick University's Nature Conservation Unit was the first of its kind to be established within an academic institution in Cyprus, making a significant contribution to research on environmental conservation issues and contributing in shaping the national biodiversity strategy.
