President Nicos Christodoulides at Frederick University's Graduation Ceremony in Limassol

"You are graduating from a University recognized both nationally and internationally for its academic excellence" said the President of the Republic of Cyprus during his speech at the University's Graduation Ceremony in Limassol.

The Ceremony was held on June 27 at the Limassol Municipal Garden, during which 1169 students graduated after completing their studies in the 25 Programs offered by Frederick University at its Limassol campus.

In his address, President Christodoulides referred to the great effort to make Cyprus a regional centre of University Education, stressing that the provision of quality education is a key component in this goal. Addressing the graduates, President Christodoulides noted: "Your education at Frederick University has provided you with all the tools for a successful professional and personal career. You are graduating from a University recognized both nationally and internationally for its academic excellence." The President congratulated Frederick University for its outstanding achievements in global university rankings and for its participation in a consortium of European Universities that makes it part of the European effort to form an innovative, internationally competitive and attractive Education and Research area. In addition, he made special mention of Michael Frederickou, "the founder of this great educational edifice and a visionary of higher education in Cyprus. The core of his existence, and it is something that characterizes and will characterize the University throughout its course, has always been his fellow human."

During the Ceremony, the President presented an honorary diploma to law graduate Katerina Christofidou, the graduate with the highest academic performance among all graduates of the academic year 2022-23.

In his speech, the University's Rector, Professor George Demosthenous, referred to specific measures that can make Cyprus an educational destination and invited the President to work together to create a body for this purpose. The Rector also referred to the University's participation as a full and equal member of EU-CONEXUS, one of the first "European Universities" which the European Union considers as the Universities of the future. The Rector urged the graduates to seize opportunities, pursue their goals and dare. "Choose to resist, to confront and challenge every devaluation of human dignity!"

The University Council President, Ms Natassa Frederickou, also addressed the ceremony. Ms Frederickou referred to the University's recent achievement as the highest scoring University of all Universities in Cyprus and Greece in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023, which ranks Universities from around the world according to their performance in promoting and adopting the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In this year's ranking, which involved 1,591 universities worldwide, the University ranked in the top 201-300. "Universities have this tremendously important position of being able to make real change. They gather the greatest minds on the planet and offer the opportunity to shape tomorrow's citizens, to connect and bring together stakeholders to work on common issues." Ms Frederickou also noted that the outstanding success in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023 reflects the University's commitment to a better tomorrow.

One of the Ceremony's highlights was when the eight Rectors of the EU-CONEXUS partner Universities sent their congratulations to our University's graduates via a pre-recorded message.

The ceremony concluded with the awarding of the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and the oath taking of the Graduates of the Faculty of Law.
