Scholarships from leading shipping companies for our incoming students

Leading shipping companies offer scholarships and educational opportunities with the aim to support new students pursuing maritime studies at Frederick University, the first University in Cyprus to offer maritime studies.

These scholarships play a crucial role in developing the next generation of maritime professionals in Cyprus, as they are designed to attract and nurture talent in the maritime industry, ensuring a steady influx of skilled professionals. Apart from financial support, they also provide educational opportunities and practical experience through internships as well as partial funding of the maritime students’ annual Summer Field Trip to renowned maritime organizations in Europe, such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Lloyds of London, Clarksons, Baltic Exchange, Intertanko, P&I Club and/or DP World Port facilities.

Here's an overview of some notable scholarships offered by leading shipping companies to Frederick University new students:

• Island Oil, one of the largest companies based in Cyprus operating in the marine and domestic fuels sector, offers two (2) scholarships covering 50% of tuition in Frederick University’s BSc in Maritime Studies.
• DP World, a leading provider of smart logistics solutions enabling the flow of trade across the globe, offers two (2) full scholarships – one to a new undergraduate student in Frederick University’s BSc in Maritime Studies and one to a new postgraduate student in one of the postgraduate programs offered by the University’s Department of Maritime Transport and Commerce.

All scholarships apply to new students that will begin their studies in the academic year 2024-25. Interested candidates should complete the respective application form (click here for Island Oil scholarships announcement and application form and here for DP World scholarships announcement and application form) and submit it with the required documentation at adminfo@frederick.ac.cy by Monday, 9th of September 2024.

All duly completed applications that are submitted within the set timeframe and are accompanied by the required documentation, will be evaluated by Scholarship Evaluation Committees, appointed by Frederick University and each of the awarding companies. Applications will be ranked according to a scoring system that is based on socio-economic criteria, the personality and the academic performance of the candidates.
