Civil Engineering Students on a Field Trip in Limassol

The Department of Civil Engineering at Frederick University has organised an educational field trip to the construction site of Limassol-Saittas highway project (Phase A) on Wednesday 13/11/2024. The project is currently under construction and is expected to complete by February 2025 with a cost exceeding 30 million euro.

It is a vital project for the area which includes three existing schools and future residential areas, schools and a university.

Civil Engineering students from all years participated in the field trip and this proved to be a significant and worthy experience as students have observed on-site a number of engineering works including embankments, roundabouts, main and secondary roads, retaining walls, reinforced earth, in-situ testing etc. The students were informed in detail about the project on-site by the Public Works Department District Engineer Mr. Panicos Panayiotou and Project Engineer Ms. Eftychia Mavronikola.

Field trips are important components of the Civil Engineering degree at Frederick University and are frequently organised by the Department to help students in studying and understanding the complex nature and significance of Civil Engineering projects in practice and also to relate theory and design topics in real conditions.
