Our University welcomed the President and Executive Director of EU-CONEXUS

Frederick University was honoured to welcome Prof. Jean-Marc Ogier, Chair of the Governing Board of EU-CONEXUS and President of La Rochelle Université, along with Dr. Isabella Baer-Eiselt, Executive Director of EU-CONEXUS, to Cyprus.

University officials provided a tour of the Nicosia and Limassol campuses and hosted a dinner with ambassadors from the countries represented in EU-CONEXUS, highlighting the strategic collaboration among the nine European universities.

During their visit to the Nicosia campus, the EU-CONEXUS representatives met with Ms. Natassa Frederickou, President of the University's Council, and Dr. Christoforos Charalambous, Vice President. The guests were briefed on the progress of the University’s objectives within the framework of EU-CONEXUS, one of the "universities of the future" according to the European Commission. Additionally, they discussed the next steps for the consortium, which will be part of the agenda for the next EU-CONEXUS Governing Board meeting, to be held in Cyprus in 2025.

The guests received an overview of the University's research activities and toured the Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology Research Lab. The visit also included a meeting with Prof. Byron Ioannou, Head of the Department of Architecture, focusing on Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability through innovative research initiatives.

At the Limassol campus, the delegation met with Dr. Angelos Menelaou, Head of the Maritime Transport and Commerce Department, to discuss departmental research tackling marine pollution and supporting Limassol’s goal to become climate-neutral.

Additionally, Prof. Costas Mantzalos from the University’s Department of Arts and Communication provided a briefing on the upcoming EU-CONEXUS festival, which is scheduled to take place in Limassol in May 2025.
