Frederick University's award-winning formula car captivates audience

The event organized by our University on Tuesday, October 22, to celebrate the triumph of the FUF Racing Team, evolved into a celebration of motor sports. Our University's team which secured 3rd place in the Formula SAE Italy World Competition.
During the event, the award-winning race car ran on the Daytona Raceway, showcasing its engineering excellence and winning the admiration of those present.

Addressing the event, ms Natassa Frederickou, President of the University Council, said: "I warmly congratulate the team members for this significant achievement, which is the result of continuous work, relentless dedication, and unmatched passion for engineering and innovation." Speaking to the members of the FUF Racing Team, she remarked that achieving 3rd place is tangible proof of their exceptional skills and ability to face challenges, noting that their triumph is yet another example of the value of teamwork and the continuous pursuit of excellence.

The tradition of building racing cars at Frederick University dates back many years, as in 1969, students from the Department of Engineering of the then Technical and Economic School of Nicosia, which later evolved into Frederick University, constructed the first racing car. Notably, a member of that original 1969 team, as well as members of previous FUF Racing Team groups, attended the event.

In her speech, Ms. Frederickou made special mention of the team's academic advisor, Professor Antonis Lontos, whose dedication and guidance were pivotal to this success. She thanked Professor Lontos for his vision and support, which continuously inspires the university's students.

Following this latest success, the FUF Racing Team is establishing itself as one of the strongest and most respected teams internationally in the Formula Student competition, putting Cyprus in the spotlight of academic education in the field of automotive engineering. The team's 3rd place was in a particularly demanding and competitive category, that of internal combustion engine cars, where the 1st place was awarded to Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia (Italy) and the 2nd place to the University of Applied Sciences, Aachen (Germany).

Additionally, the event served as an excellent opportunity for the university to thank the team's sponsors, who have supported this significant effort from the beginning and have shown confidence in the abilities and potential of the team’s students.
