Contributing to the training of academics in Latin America for the integration of the SDGs

Dr. Chrysanthi Kadji, and Dr. Aravella Zachariou, participated in an educational activity in Costa Rica as part of the ACT4SDGs project, where they engaged in training sessions for academics in Latin American Universities.
Dr. Kadji, Head of our University's Department of Education, and Dr. Zachariou, Coordinator of the Environmental Education and Sustainable Development Department at the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, and a collaborator of the University, travelled to Costa Rica and actively participated in the training sessions.
As part of the project, the Euro-Latin American Network for the Professional Development of University Teaching was created. This is a platform dedicated to improving the quality of university teaching by aligning it with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Over 1,200 university educators will be trained as agents of change, promoting the transformation of their institutions into more sustainable ones. The network consists of 14 institutions based in Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina, Colombia, Germany, Greece, and Cyprus.
Frederick University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Education at Heidelberg University, the University of Crete, and RCE Crete, is actively participating in a series of training sessions for academics from Latin American universities. These ongoing trainings aim at the professional development of university educators to incorporate the SDGs into their courses. Successful trainings have already been completed in Costa Rica and Mexico, with two more scheduled for Argentina and Colombia.
The academics who attended the workshops acquired skills and tools to restructure and enrich their teaching, promoting an educational culture that fosters sustainable environmental awareness, social responsibility, and an interdisciplinary approach to global challenges.
Frederick University firmly supports initiatives that strengthen education for sustainability and collaborates with international partners to integrate the SDGs into higher education, contributing to the creation of a fairer and more sustainable future. The University is a member of the UN's Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and a founding member of SDSN Cyprus.
