You are invited to participate in an introductory in-person workshop on Data Analysis Using the R Programming Language.

The workshop is open to all students, regardless of prior experience with R.

Dates: Tuesday, 5th December & Thursday, 7th December
Time: 16:00 - 18:00
Location: Room 27, Frederick University, Nicosia

Workshop Highlights:

Day 1 (Tuesday, 5th December, 16:00 - 18:00):
- Learn fundamental statistical concepts
- Gain insights into the theory behind data analysis

Day 2 (Thursday, 7th December, 16:00 - 18:00):
- Hands-on practice using R
- Apply the learned concepts to real-world scenarios

Registration is required by December 3rd due to limited space. Pls email Dr. Christos Mammides at res.cm@frederick.ac.cy.

Participants must bring their laptops and attend both sessions to receive a Certificate of Completion.

The workshop is organised within the framework of the BIOMON project funded by HORIZON – ERA Fellowships and titled “Using passive acoustic monitoring methods to survey bird communities in biodiverse agricultural farmlands in the EU.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the initiative of the General Secretariat for European Affairs, signed in December 2021 a Memorandum of Understanding with the College of Europe, offering an annual scholarship to Cypriot citizens, for one of the postgraduate programs of the College.

The College of Europe was founded in 1949. Since 1992 it has operated in two university campuses, the Bruges Campus in Belgium and the Natolin Campus in Poland. It offers a wide choice of postgraduate programs in European Union affairs, providing postgraduate students with the necessary skills to live and work in the EU and, generally in a European and international environment.

Based on the provisions of the relevant Memorandum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is offering for the Academic Year 2024-25 to Cypriot citizens, one (1) scholarship to study at the Bruges Campus amounting to twenty-nine thousand euros (€29,000), or one (1) scholarship to study at the Natolin Campus amounting to twenty-seven thousand euros (€27,000). The scholarship covers tuition fees and accommodation.

Interested applicants, must complete and submit their applications via the website of the College.

The deadline for submission of applications is the 16th January 2024.

With regards to the selection process, the College of Europe proceeds with the first selection of candidates, which is then submitted to the National Selection Committee of the Republic of Cyprus, which was jointly set up with the College of Europe, as per provisions of the relevant Memorandum.

Παραχώρηση Υποτροφίας από το Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών για φοίτηση στο Κολλέγιο της Ευρώπης

Το Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών, με πρωτοβουλία της Γενικής Γραμματείας Ευρωπαϊκών Υποθέσεων, υπέγραψε τον Δεκέμβριο 2021, Μνημόνιο Συναντίληψης με το Κολλέγιο της Ευρώπης, για παροχή μίας υποτροφίας ετησίως σε Κύπριους πολίτες, για φοίτηση στο εν λόγω Ίδρυμα Ανώτερης Εκπαίδευσης.

Το Κολλέγιο της Ευρώπης ιδρύθηκε το 1949. Από το 1992 στεγάζεται σε δύο πανεπιστημιακές εγκαταστάσεις, στη Bruges (Βέλγιο) και στο Natolin (Πολωνία). Προσφέρει ευρεία επιλογή μεταπτυχιακών προγραμμάτων με επίκεντρο θέματα Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (ΕΕ), παρέχοντας τα απαραίτητα εχέγγυα σε μεταπτυχιακούς φοιτητές και φοιτήτριες να ζήσουν και να εργαστούν στην ΕΕ και γενικότερα σε ένα ευρωπαϊκό και διεθνές περιβάλλον.

Με βάση τις πρόνοιες του εν λόγω Μνημονίου, το Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών παραχωρεί για το ακαδημαϊκό έτος 2024-2025 μία (1) υποτροφία για φοίτηση στις πανεπιστημιακές εγκαταστάσεις στην πόλη Bruges ύψους είκοσι εννέα χιλιάδων ευρώ (€29,000), ή μία (1) υποτροφία για φοίτηση στις πανεπιστημιακές εγκαταστάσεις στην πόλη Natolin ύψους είκοσι επτά χιλιάδων ευρώ (€27,000). Η υποτροφία καλύπτει τα δίδακτρα και τη διαμονή.

Οι αιτήσεις συμπληρώνονται και υποβάλλονται ηλεκτρονικά μέσω της ιστοσελίδας του Κολλεγίου.

Η προθεσμία για υποβολή αιτήσεων λήγει στις 16 Ιανουαρίου 2024.

Σε ό,τι αφορά στη διαδικασία επιλογής, σημειώνεται ότι η επιλογή των υποψηφίων γίνεται σε πρώτο στάδιο από το Κολλέγιο της Ευρώπης και, στη συνέχεια, οι υποψήφιοι εξετάζονται από την Εθνική Εξεταστική Επιτροπή της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, η οποία έχει συσταθεί από κοινού με το Κολλέγιο της Ευρώπης, στη βάση των προνοιών του σχετικού Μνημονίου.

Εργαστήρι Οριζόντιων Δεξιοτήτων (Soft Skills)

Σύμφωνα με έρευνα που διεξήγαγε η Ένωση Πανεπιστημίων και Εργοδοτών Αμερικής (NACE), όταν εργοδότες κλήθηκαν να ονομάσουν τα χαρακτηριστικά που αναζητούν σε υποψήφιους/ες υπαλλήλους, απάντησαν σε μεγάλο ποσοστό ότι πάνω από τις τεχνικές δεξιότητες και την ειδίκευση, ζητούν να έχουν κυρίως ηγετικές ικανότητες, ικανότητες εργασίας σε ομάδα, δεξιότητες επικοινωνίας και ανεπτυγμένη εργασιακή ηθική. Τις λεγόμενες, δηλαδή, οριζόντιες δεξιότητες ή soft skills.

Soft Skills Workshop

According to a survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employees (NACE) in the United States, when employers were asked to name the characteristics they seek in potential employees, a significant percentage responded that, beyond technical skills and specialization, they are primarily looking for leadership abilities, teamwork skills, communication skills, and strong work ethics. These are commonly referred to as soft skills.

Frederick University’s Career Office, in collaboration with the Cyprus Productivity Centre, is organizing a soft skills workshop in Nicosia and Limassol as follows:

Calling the EU-CONEXUS student community to participate in a short story contest! 

If you like writing and being challenged, this call is for you! 

Our European University Alliance, EU-CONEXUS, is asking all students to write a dystopian short story on the future of the EU-CONEXUS coastlines. 

Concept:

The world’s coastlines are facing a number of challenges, including climate change, rising sea levels, and coastal erosion. These challenges are having a significant impact on coastal communities, ecosystems, and economies. In this call, students are invited to imagine coastal regions that have undergone profound transformation following a significant event in the 2070s, as documented in a newspaper article published 50 years later. Society has adeptly adapted to these shifts, giving rise to a novel societal structure. It is within this evolved coastal society that students are encouraged to craft a short story.

EU-CONEXUS presents four distinct scenarios from which you can select one or two as your narrative’s foundation.

To maintain narrative coherence, your fiction should align with current scientific knowledge, encompassing fields such as earth sciences, biology, geography, and more. While not necessitating complete scientific accuracy, your content should exhibit internal consistency and a foundation based on sound principles.

Submission Guidelines:

Stories should be:

- between 3 and 8 pages long
- in French or English
- submitted in Word or PDF format.
- double-spaced and in 12-point font.

Prizes:

The top three winning stories will be selected by a jury based at La Rochelle Université.
Winners will get EU-CONEXUS goodies and will have their story promoted within EU-CONEXUS channels.

Deadline for submission is 31st December 2023.
